Hey Grampa -- these coops are awesome -- I love the way they look. But NO windows -- ?? Or can you just prop open the top - that would be so cool. Also what about rain water -- and a flat roof ?? Too much snow up here for a flat roof -- but I could see setting up a whole row of these - connected with a gable roof ... I'm inspired...
The end boxes are the nesting boxes. The top hinges up to get the eggs. During the rains, they go outside anyway. So the flat roof only helps if they are inside. It is better than nothing. They are out all day in the runs and go in at night. I am on 5 acres so yes I have room. It's been almost a year since I built these. The only problem is the sliding doors have swelled and won't close anymore. That is one thing I need to get to. But all in all, I still thrilled that I did this.
Very nice - rustic looking - no paint needed. I too would like some of these, but my husband is the kind to miter every corner. We'd be next year getting it done.
