Share Your Candling Pics and Videos!

Thanks so much! My husband was teasing me because I was reading about exploding eggs and I kind of freaked out because I don't want that happening! But after seeing everyones pictures on here I feel more confident that things are going well!

One more question about candling when you do your main test around day seven and fourteen do you take all the eggs out at once or do you take them out one at a time? I was thinking if I take them out one at a time all that opening and closing might mess with the temp too much but if I take them all out will they get too cold? I'm just wondering what's the best way to do it to have less impact on their development. The room I will be working in is 70º thats where the incubator is set up.

They will be fine either way, as they can cool for short periods of time :). My preferred method right now is to do "hands free" candling, where I just put the light to the aircell without even removing it from the incubator. This only works in turners though, where the eggs are upright and stationary :). I would take them out one at a time and just have a system in place so you know who's been done and who hasn't. Numbering them helps too!

I learned that that was an option last spring. And I was able to do it without a turner. I just unplugged the bator so the light wouldn't keep coming on, and used a strong pen-light to shine through the aircell. I'm sure it wouldn't work if the bator was super full. (note to self: DON'T FORGET TO PLUG THE BATOR BACK IN!!!!! ) I had a good hatch with a home made incubator in spite of 2 power outages, several temp spikes, and one self-induced OOPS!

Ok so I couldn't resist and I went ahead and candled while my kids were taking their naps. It definitely wasn't a blood ring their are so many veins in both eggs I doubted! I have eighteen eggs going six shipped and a dozen local I believe my egg #4 one of the shipped ones has a blood ring it looks so different from the other eighteen only one of the locals looks clear I took notes and am going to keep my hands off now unit day 14. I am so happy I candled though my mind is at ease that everything is going smoothly. Thank you for all your help!! Oh I did it one by one and that worked well for me since it's my first time! I was able to view the stuff going on and find the air cells and veins.

Oh good! That's always a good feeling :)

Ok here we go. . .

These first two pictures are the same egg I wasn't sure which one was more clear. This looks like a blood ring to me. I pulled it out but haven't thrown it out yet.
