Awesome! Thank you! Well I feel silly for doing it at the wrong end but like I said, getting my hands on experience here! And yes I have them this way in the turner, so I assumed this was the way you'd candle.

No worries! It's a common mistake and it's hard to know what you're looking at when you candle for the first time ^_^

Hi all,
Im new to this forum. Yesterday morning I set my third set of eggs.. the first time I incubated eggs was 10 years ago, and the second time around 3 years ago. I REALLY enjoy the process, and as I cant keep aquiring chickens to look after myself, Im thinking of offering the service to others in my country town. I must admit I get addicted to candling, and I have read somewhere that it is not harmful to the embryo/chick (short of keeping the egg out of the incubator too long).
I have set just 2 eggs this time round as Im looking to keep these babies myself.

I came here tonight to say that even though you are not meant to see anything in candling before around 72 hours, at 39 hours I can see a distinct blastoderm (the donut shape) quite clearly inside one! I was not expecting that!
Looking forward to the days ahead

I think this is a GREAT thread. Bill 101, I am NOT trying to cause problems, but this is a place to have fun!!! I think it is great seeing the heartbeat and them moving around. It IS fascinating, don't you think? Good job, hokankai!!!

That is very interesting! I've never been able to see anything before the blood islands develop. What color are the egg shells?

Hi... I only have set two eggs and Im only seeing a change in the one so far. That one is a very light tan colour. The distinct blastoderm donut shape last night is tonight a much larger indistinct patch, darker and denser than an infertile yolk, so Im still hopeful The other egg is cream and a little smaller, with an infertile look so far.

I set more than I need for this reason. chickens don't like small flocks. they are happier with atleast 4

I really appreciate this thread!!!! I like seeing the pics as well as the videos. I wish there were more though. I recently set some Jumbo Wisconsin quail eggs 3 days ago. They're white so I can see in them, but I don't really recognize anything yet. I think I see a mass in some, some I think I see the yolk rolling around lol I know it's too early. I was just curious. :/ I'm gonna candle again on day 7 to see what's up.
