They're so cute

and i'm glad the little one that fell is ok.

Well, i have some bad news about my chicks. I made a pen for them in the garden to let them run about in a bigger space and peck at the ground. They were loving it. However, it was not enclosed from the top and i went in the house to make the dinner for an hour and when i came back to check on them i saw the neighbors cat in the pen! I chased it away but it was too late, it had eaten every last one

I guess i'm learning the hard way. I'm gutted. All that effort just to feed the neighbors big fat ginger cat! I feel awful.

But my friend bought two chicks from the market last week and she was intending to give them to me so i went round and picked them up this morning. I'm not leaving these ones outside unattended!!

Here they are, these ones are now 10 days old. Hopefully they're female but even if one is a boy I'll keep it if it looks pretty to mate with the hens. And i was watching on youtube how to sex baby chicks by their wings so i'm going to buy some more day old chicks and try to just pick the females.

oh no i thought you knew **** i should have told you I'm so sorry

if you are going to keep them outside, the enclosure they are in MUST be protected from all sides and the sides must have hard wire cloth aprons **** I'm so sorry if you where closer i would give you some chicks

Beautiful little chicks
You need a water pistol next time the cat comes looking for lunch give it a soaking

Thanks guys. I know now! Never again! I'm off to the market today to pick up a couple more chicks to add to these two. Hopefully i can wing sex them and come home with all females.

We've totally gone way off topic for this thread. But i just wanted to show you my new chicks

I picked up these 4 from the farmers market on Saturday. They're 'village chickens' meaning they're mutts but the guy pointed to some adults when i asked what they'd look like and they were pretty looking with different shades of red, brown and black on them so hopefully these will feather out nicely. So now i have 6 chicks, but I'm keeping these ones apart in case the bigger ones kill these baby ones. And I'm going to get a few more next Saturday - hoping to get a good mix of different genes. I really want some Brahmas but the only chicks i can find are always mutts like these. I'm keeping an eye out though. I can tell this is going to become addictive......lol

Can someone post a picture of an egg at 15 and 13 days? My phone is unable to post pictures at the moment. If someone could that would be great.

here where all my duck eggs at day 14 all where alive at the time. if if their is no movement that means that the embryo died i would keep it a few more days to be sure but you need to get rid of it after that or risk an explosion.
