Wow. I'm a bit surprised that there were no responses. All the recipes on here are so mouth watering that I expected there would be a fair share of smoothie lovers on here. Oh, well. Maybe the timing of the post was off.
Anyway. This morning I experimented for my son's 19th birthday and wanted to surprise him with a big breakfast, including a smoothie. I made a strawberry-banana one. I thought it was quite good. He loved it also. He said it was stronger than what he was expecting, but that he liked the taste. I have to admit that they were filling. Here's what I did.
Bold Strawberry-Banana Smoothie
3 Ripening Bananas (Believe it or not, the store was out of spotted bananas, so I used the ripest ones they had. I was concerned it wouldn't be sweet enough, but it turned out just fine.)
14 oz Frozen Strawberries
30 oz Vanilla Yogurt
½ cup Milk (We use 2%, but I'm sure any would work.)
I started with the bananas and the milk in the blender until that was smooth. After that I alternated yogurt and the strawberries. I needed to blend it after each addition because it was so thick. It was so worth it! In total it took about 4-5 minutes to make. With a little practice I'm sure it wouldn't take even that long.
The thickness was like a thick milk shake and fairly smooth. If you used a straw, it would have to be one of those wide ones, and it might be a work out anyway. I ended up needing to use a spoon to get the last of it out of the glass because it was so thick and sticking the the sides of the glass.
When I think back on this recipe, its pretty darn healthy. I didn't add any sugar or honey. It didn't need it. It was filling, too. This made enough for probably 3 or 4 tall glasses, although I'm not sure. We used small glasses because we had so much food and orange juice besides. This could definitely be a breakfast on its own!
Enjoy!
