Sharing my new babies

Moved the girls into their new brooder coop Monday. They are now outside in the insulated lean-to, safe from predators. They are absolutely loving the extra space and amenities. Got to make them some roosts yet and get the coop and run built.

Getting their morning treat. Yummy! Cracked corn in fresh dirt.

Sophie says "Good Morning!"

BTW... I joined the BYC Facebook group to share pics. I'm really learning a lot! Bless You all!

Well, the girls are now one month old. And we are head over heels in love! We're still wondering when the cute ugly stage happens, because we haven't seen it yet.

Miss LuLu loves attention and has decided blueberries are her favorite treat. She steals them from everyone and swallows them whole if she thinks someone's going to take it from her. We have to lock her out of the coop or hold on to her while we give the others one or two. Which she definitely lets us know she doesn't like , LOL.

Mala is the drama queen. She makes the most noise and causes a scene with every little thing. She likes to be held, but only on her terms. She is the largest of our 4 girls.

Gracie is our quiet observer. She, too, likes to sit on my leg and search my hand for treats. She's not shy, but she's also not the first out the door. She is a beautiful blue color and the tips of her feathers are a little bit darker. Still not sure what breed she is.

Sophie is our smallest and she is very shy. She has taken to my daughter and has decided that laying in her lap is the perfect place for a nap. Sophie is always the last to come out. She follows Mala everywhere. If you look for Mala, chances are you'll find Sophie tucked underneath.

We have purchased supplies to build the permanent coop. Now we just have to decide on the particulars and figure out exactly how to build it. I'm really looking forward to it.

The girls are now 6 months old and 3 of the 4 are now laying! Yay!

The "ugly cute" stage.

4 months old.

I haven't gotten recent photos of all of them, yet.

Lulu was the first to lay. She's a Pearl White Leghorn. Her eggs are white.

Mala is supposed to be an Americauna. But her eggs are more green than blue, so I'm not sure.

Grace is laying a pink/cream colored egg. Her single comb is much fuller now than in this picture. I have no idea what breed she is.

Sophie is a Buff-Laced Polish. She's not laying yet. She's at the bottom of the pecking order.

Here's a pic of their eggs.

They are all so beautiful and unique! 🥰Beautiful eggs too, congratulations! Grace may be a Sapphire Gem, brown egg layer from Hoover Hatchery. I do not know where you got your chicks but they do source to TSC among other places.😊
Mala is an Easter Egger and they can lay green, blue or even pink eggs.

We got them from Murray McMurray. None of them are supposed to be "easter eggers"!? So, everytime someone twlls me this, it confuses me. We paid for pure breeds.

No worries she is beautiful nonetheless! Pure bred Ameraucana are fairly rare, will always lay some shade of blue or aqua colored eggs, they follow a specific breed standard and only come in certain colors. They also have gray legs. Also cost at least $15-$20 per chick. Easter Eggers typically look like your beautiful Mala, often have greenish legs and often have the partridge coloring as she does.
This topic is often a source of debate here on BYC there are many threads giving more details if you need them.😊

I have purchased chicks from McMurry as well they are a great hatchery and have wonderful customer service. I know they claim their birds are ameraucana but they do not follow the breed standard and you are not able to order specific colors which you would be able to do if you bought them from a breeder for example.😊

Thank you.☺ We love her either way. She's my cuddle-baby 😍 and, now we get to have green eggs & ham! 😉LOL

Well, our girls are now a year old and all are laying. We love them dearly. They also have a new coop, built by daddy. He's working on enlarging their run as they like my garden waaaaay too much! LOL Here are some new pics.
We're also adding black copper marans and prairie bluebells as soon as they are big enough.

I forgot, here's our new additions... 2 Black Copper Marans & 2 Prairie Bluebells. They're a little older now. (I haven't been as efficient taking pics with this group as I was the first. I'm told that's "normal", LOL.)
