I still need to go back and read 20 pages but I need quick help from you experts.
We picked up 28 3 week old ee chicks on Saturday. My hubby put them in a separate area where they stayed til last night. They seemed a bit puffy but we thought it was just from the shock of the last few days. They were eating and drinking fine, no other problems we could see.
He built a "room" for the older chicks and yesterday moved the 28 with the 96 hatchery chicks that are also 3 weeks old into the grow out room. when we checked on them last night there was blood in the shavings! We started treating them last night with Di-Methox (sulfamethid?) that we bought months ago for our chicken medical cabinet from a local vet who said it was for coccidiosis.
We have lost 8 of the ee's today! My hubby separated everyone back into there brooders after thoroughly cleaning everything (again!) and started to treat there water separately trying to prevent the hatchery birds from getting sick. Our other brooder of keeper birds never came in contact with these but are also housed in the garage, should we treat them as well for preventative measure?
Is there anything else we can do to help them? My poor hubby is freaking out over losing this many babies in a day. Several more still look puffy (the ees) but the last one died around 1. We have never dealt with cocci before- never should have tried nonmedicated feed. Bad idea. Very frustrated tonight and worried abaout our babies.
