Group shot. Wingtip is on the top right. The other two black ones are Thelma and Louise because it fits their behavior so far. I have another one just like Wingtip still in the bator. That was the egg that was marked mix like Nat's eggs and was such a struggler. Kristen, I think it's one of yours though. Is it possible the eggs got mixed up?

These are the late hatchers and the struggler. The yellow one was in one of the wax eggs that was marked BR/EE. Could it be?

This is Cheeks. One of Nat's mixes.

This is Arabella. A lovely black silkie who's as calm as calm can be. Totally healthy, just perfectly calm and sweet.

The chick lying on the right is the struggler. It's name is Rocky, because it fought so hard.

The yellow one still in the bator was in a BR/EE egg. So maybe that's a hen and the eggs weren't really mixed up? Can you tell about the others? Does that mean I hit the mother lode of roos with the black ones? lol

Last year we were in Maryland and Pennsylvania at a friend's place and at our dog National Specialty. We spent 2 weeks up there, but it was before I got to know ya'll! Hopefully in a few years it will be up that way again. Year after this it will be in Las Vegas. That should be an experience.

I'll start working on DH right now about that cabin! We spent a couple of weeks at an old cabin in Maine on a lake, probably 10-12 years ago, now, and DH loved it! Except they were having a heat wave and it was 96 during the day!

Wow, if Nat's silkie's are that calm I might have to ask for some again after JenEric gets hers. The one silkie I have is quite the little hysteric. Hopefully Kentuckysilkies will be calmer.

Sorry Mary, we have yet to try butterflies. I made a lion fish and my MIL absconded with it. I'm sort of in the planning stages for a large peacock to go on top the entry into the chicken area. A hawk. A dancing laughing ostrich. But no butterflies yet. DH is starting a new project but he isn't telling me what it will be. Its a surprise!

I want to hear you tell me about your great hatch this time!

My d'uccles (now down to 3) will be going to lockdown on Wednesday. I hope all three hatch.

How do you know if a chick has "spraddle legs"?

The last yellow that hatched out of the wax egg can not stand. It just rolls from side to side. It is in the brooder hospital right now (Fed Ex box...) But somethings definitely not right with it. Is that spraddle legs?

Those are beautiful roses!!!! In NY, I got up to 80 rose bushes, down here in Florida, 4. One does extremely well for me so I have 2, the rest hate it here. LOL

Thank you Sem

Have you tried communicating with gardeners in your area to see what does well for them? I know a women who lives in FL, she has a ton of roses. I can give you a couple websites if you'd like. She belongs to one of them. Only if you want of course, I'm not pushing roses on anyone. LOL, ok, yes I do. I push chickens on people too. My dh calls me the pimp

You used to live in NY? I hate NY. I've been trying to convince the family to move south for years. DH just keeps saying when he retires. Butthead. I want to move to Mississippi, Louisiana, or Alabama.

Thanks, but I think I'll stick to chickens right now, LOL. I do have 2 of one type rose that does well here, it's a Romantica rose, grandiflora, I'll get the name tomorrow. I really loved one rose called Sherifa Asma, but I've killed 3 here so far. I might try those again because it was my fault I think. It's just very hard to keep things watered here.

I hate NY. I'm from LI. It used to be real country when I was younger (east end), but it just got nasty there, so we moved here by my parents. The big improvement is that life is much less aggravating here. I think those 3 states you've mentioned are great. I wouldn't mind living in one of those.

Don't you find that alot of the time you look at chicks and get a "vibe" whether it's male or female, and that's more accurate? I feel like I watch them so much that their behavior gives them away. I have one of four JG's that is somewhat of a loner, while the other 3 chat all day, and hang together. I would figure loner is a boy. I think he's getting some shiny feathers in the middle of his back (?).

I have 3 Faverolles, 2 are known boys, and look like they are the lookouts. The other looks like a girl, feathered like a girl, acts like a girl, the only boy thing is it's comb, it's bigger than the girl combs, but not as red as the boy combs. So still, a question mark.

I don't know, I think spraddle legs is when they are splayed out and you bandaid them together like hobbles to keep them together. Are the legs splayed?
