Can I have one of you? You are awesome to pitch in. Obviously none of my biz...but why did SIL walk on eggshells around it? Hmmm. I am such a blunt bizatch, I have a hard time when people don't tell it to me straight.

Thats how the whole family is-blunt they are not. Mark's dad is the only one besides his Bro that will tell it like it is ... the rest wont say a word unless they are backed into a corner. hoping the other person doesnt find out-sorta like why tell if they wont find out anyway or hope they dont find out. Ive been pitching in since 2 hours after they closed on the restaurant. I go there everyday after my normal job to see if they need anything. I jump in behind the grill-dishes-waitressing ( also helps I was a waitress/manager for 15 years in the restaurants-LOL) didnt matter to me. I never asked for anything and I pay FOR EVERYTHING when we eat there I never expect a free ride. SHOOT even when she is cooking aND i WAIT on my self or family I clean up after us and I still leave a tip!!! But that drew the line for me. No more help-I will not be a jerk but I will not extend my neck out like that just to be hurt. The girl that showed up had never even waitreesed before-she was just a friend of a friend!!! I know SIL didnt do it to be a jerk but I can darn well bet a million bucks she was hoping I wouldnt show up this am to see that girl put my waitressing apron on!!!

haha-thanks phew...really I thought ..how hard could a few birds be??? but wowser!!! thats great if he sends you just what you need! I almost got a bantam trio of BLRW last year..really wanted them but was too late when I called-sold them the day before:-(

Not trying to scare you as much as making sure you knew what you might be getting youself into. Speaking from experience, we have a what I assume is an American Game hen that migrated over from the farm next door. At best she may be 1/3 the size of my Brahmas, but nobody gives her any crap. This past spring she hid a nest on me, and produced a brood of 1/2 Brahma chicks. Nate you should be proud of her because they were almost all male. She raised them free range, bringing them into the coop at night. It was obvious from early on these were something different, always sparring with each other, sometimes 3 or 4 flairing up together and circleing around like some kind of square dance before jumping into it. They matured much quiker than the pure Brahmas and were a holy terror, beating up on the bigger immature cockerels, and trying to jump every pullet the could catch, in between fighting each other every chance they got, and these guys had only been crowing for a week or two. The day I got rid of those guys, I think the stress level, and blood pressure of the flock, and myself, went down tremendously. The next day was like the whole flock was on valium and every thing was back to peace and calm. And these guys were diluted by being 1/2 Brahma, imagine what some high hosepower game breeds are like.

Nat sorry about your day, but I must say I applaude your choice of beverage, Newcastle is hard to to top.

Wow - I'm away from the computer for a couple of days and the whole world goes to heck!

Sorry to hear about everyone's chicks - remind me why I am collecting eggs for the incubator again?

Nat - just stay away - clearly she's fine on her own now. She can be a big girl and do without you while you sit home with your feet up and a glass of wine.

Big M - I am looking into Cornish or Malay. I spoke to a Cornish man at the Poultry Congress last month and he did not indicate to me that there are any temperament problems. Mostly we spoke about their heart problems. I fact, he had a roo he was supposed to show, but he thought he had a heart attack on the way in - it could not stand, and there was water dripping out of it's mouth. He said it was not uncommon for that to happen. He also said I shouldn't have any temperament problems with just a couple of hens. The malays I'm aware there may be issues, but I'm just looking for a couple of pullets right now. I'm trying to pick between those two as my rare breed to help bring up the numbers. I'd like to live with a couple of them first, though. So, does your dad have all the males separated, or have the pens set up with small flocks each so they don't fight? I mean, I realize they are a game bird, but I guess I didn't know there was that much "Game" left in them - kind of like bulldogs or mastiffs. Of course, there's nothing as great as a flock of Brahmas!

Muggs - can I come line dancing? I love it, although I haven't done it in a few years. Nowhere to go around here. Hey - we should set up a dance floor at Lovins! Not country, but I taught our fifth graders the "Men in Black" dance. My daughter is 24 now and she still knows it!

Speaking of whom - Any house updates? We're all waiting....

Hope I didn't forget anyone...

If it's anything like John's, I hear ya! Had one of his cops covering an accident scene and a van came around the corner and hit his cop car into the other accident! Took him to the hospital with his back hurting!

Like duh, slow the he11 down people, iceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

Yeah, I had all of my fire trucks and all of my ambulances out all at the same time. (well not all the fire trucks, but the vast majority of them). People really are dumb. I think we had a total of about 150 cars involved in wrecks in a 2 hour time period. State police had responses to accidents backed up to almost 20. My ambulance crews were literally dropping patients off at the ER and going right on the next call. It was crazy. Now I need some Chinese and a nap!
