Got my MF Bantam Cochin in yesterday afternoon from alpinefarm...she sent them on Saturday

18 more eggs in the bator...whoo hoo!

Day 1 starts all over again.


I am going to candle my silkies from Steve w. and Melissa H. tonight. (they are on day 11)

ok peeps hate to be a terd but I have to vent-Im on my 3rd Yeungling ( beer) and ready to eat gallon of ice cream-I just had to put down my black bearded silkie hen. Shes not one I ever used for breeding because she was born with a handicap-funky walk-but she kept up with all of them eating drinking free ranging. I went down to lock up chickens and saw her just laying there. She was breathing but I picked her up and her head just flopped:-( She had bubbles coming out of her eyes???? anyone???? she was breathing so slowly-not rattling at all or anything just long deep breaths-she looked like she got hurt and couldn't move at all-head flopping all over eyes closed-I said to DH to get a couple of store bags and I just went and did the deed-it sucks -she was 10 months old-big fat and fluffy too. frig frig frig

Im going to candle again!

She was fine yesterday-also she is the ONLY handicapper I kept from last year just cause she was so sweet and I didnt have to hand feed and tend to every minute-she did so well all winter too-dang it poor thing. DH even had to walk away while I did it-He just can't do it or watch , not that he would want to, but weak tummy I guess-he went right out the store and bought me a package of peanut MM's and recees peanut butter cups-that made me feel better and heavier!

Of my 6 eggs, I think I am down to three. I threw away an obvious blood ring (now I know what they look like after just saying the other day I didn't know.) One is probably a quitter from a few days back, but I'm holding it just to be sure. And the one I cracked yesterday with an obvious live chick now appears to be dead (easily identifiable chick, no movement) but I am holding it a few more days just to be sure. Of the three remaining, all three appear to be good, with two having totally obvious little swimmers in there. However, one appears to have TWO in it. Is that possible???? I know it sounds crazy, but I think I see two eyes, and it's a huge egg for my girls... but I don't if it's big enough for two... If there are two, I hope they dont die. One of my swimmers is a bantam egg, so I'm sure it's atleast half cochin. Possibly pure since I had a BC rooster, too.

The other eggs from Sonew and Lovin have been in almost 24 hours and I can't wait til day 4!!!
