Yup the ladies that bought them were very generous, infact the funds got me a new safe pen for my button quail so it was win win and the family was thrilled I got to go and was actually off call for a few days. I had a great time over all, unfortunately my stupid RA didnt like the 4 and 1/2 hour car ride. I did get my wheat harvested today, the lawn mowed and harvested all of my potatoes so it was atleast a partially useful day....

If I'm correct RA is rheumatoid arthritis? it's a horrible thing

if so, sorry you gotta deal with that

well, had a STRANGE dream last night lol....dreamt about the president and his wife, was trying to talk to the Mrs and he kept interupting
lol.png
. Before she left she gave me a scratch ticket, was a big green one, so when I went to the store I looked around and found a big green one but it was $10(with prodding from my niece), I never buy them. I figured what the heck and bought one. Won $25, not excellent but not bad. Feeling a bit crazy since I am listening to my dreams that featured a president that I don't paticularly care for
lau.gif
. Fell on my arse the other night and I think I fractured my tailbone....tell you what, never take being able to sit for granted

Bummer. Driving is tough, and you wouldn't think it would be, but it sure is.

Aye, RA is indeed rheumatoid arthritis, it goes well with my lupus and fibromyalgia LOL. I'm a walking rheumatoid clinic, but you know what? It could always be worse so I don't let it get me down... Hey phaaagggge.... oh miss phaaaaaggge??? Can ask you a technical question? I hate hitting you with this on the boards and anyone else can feel free to answer. Can I worm my full grown cats with ivomec? I have it and they've eaten one too many voles this summer

so sad/mad

. I was a half mile up the street from my house, visiting a friend. Came home and something killed my golden cuckoo marans girl, found blue or lavender feathers....still 8 girls missing. Among the missing are all 3 wheaten/blue wheaten ameraucana, my only 2 araucana hens, lav project girl, my first hen...a blue andalusian/australorp... feel bad I can't remember who else is missing
sad.png
I am hoping they are hiding and will be there in the morning.

Phage, was it you with the poultry fence? I got some of the 4 ft fence from premier but haven't put it up yet since I can't make it hot.....otherwise I thought my girls would just go over it or a dog would just knock it over or even worse make a hole in it. I can't afford to just put it up for it to get ruined. I am going to talk to dh about the solar charger, anyone have any info on that like what it would do to the kids if they touched it, or the chickens? Would it really protect them from dogs? I was just sick putting my girl in a bag
hit.gif
. I am going to keep them locked up tomorrow and not go anywhere, wait with the shotgun

yeah, EARLY bed time for the little ones.... even the kids are on board with shooting whatever it was even if it's a dog.... of course if their chickens come back they may not be so gung-ho
hmm.png
the marans was mine but the lav was/is my son's and the blue is our original hen so they will all be po'd if it was her...will be able to tell in daylight better what color those feathers are.....

So sorry to hear about this Krista Especially when you had the netting, but not the energizer. I have the electric poultry netting from Premier, and a charger that will power 9 of them. I have 2 up now.

Just so's you know, there were old WOLF tracks in what is now the coop. We also have bear, red fox, coyote, and all the other smaller and nastier predators too. The only thing that's ever gotten any of my chicks was a red tailed hawk- got 2, one splash Orp, 1 mottled cochin.. And now he is foiled cause I got 5 rolls of bird netting and tied them to fence posts all around the netting. Haven't lost 1 since. My roommate says she saw the hawk sitting in a tree just SE of the coop/fence set-up. The chicks are in a hayfield, so we let the hay grow real long to give them some protection that way. We also set up an 8 x 10 canopy in the furthest out section of netting. (It covers over 5000 sq. ft.) This was to "break up his line of sight". Roomie says she hasn't seen him around lately.

The bird netting was 7ft x 100 ft. I left some gaps between the long runs of it and tied it together with bright pink and orange string. That way he sees the string and the netting, and can't tell where the gaps are. The areas around the coop where the babies first venture out to play are especially well covered with bird netting. Some of it is loose on one side so it flaps aroud in the breeze. Presto. No more hawk problems. I've also heard of people stringing up old CDs to swing in the breeze to scare away the hawks.

My energizer is a two-way. It can plug into an outlet, or into a 12 volt marine battery. We have it plugged into the outlet. Even when I accidentally touch the part of the fence farthest away from the energizer,( 328 ft.) I get a hell of a jolt. But nothing harmful or severe. It wouldn't hurt your kids, or cause them to not be able to let go, but they sure wouldn't be going near it after they touched it.

Do you not have any electricity out by your birds? I don't know how well the solar chargers work, but they would not be my first choice.

But you are right not to set it up without energizing it. Then your birds would just get tangled in it. And so would anything else that came near to have a look-see, and found it not hot. My Chow Chow, touched it once. He had been rubbing near it all day with his coat and felt nothing, he is very stubborn and has a high pain threshold ( those underground fences for dogs don't phase him for a second), then he finally touched it with his nose.....pretty funny. Now he won't even go near that part of the yard.

I hope you can get yours energized soon, then nothing 4-legged will ever touch your birds. I guaran-darn-tee it.
