So my alpha barred rock hen has taken to laying speckled torpedo eggs. The egg on the left is a mint green medium sized egg, the other weighs in as Jumbo... leave it to Sid...

This is my other weird pic of the day. This is "little yellow" and her HATCHMATE Little Man... she is the tiniest thing I've ever seen. Eats and drinks fine, but has never grown and never feathered out. Her brother is already crowing...

ETA: They are both 13 weeks old..

What happened? Do I have BO or something? No posts since mine yesterday at 5pm?

I got a new cell phone and I just happened to download a chicken ring tone. No not a rooster crowing, a hen doing bok bok BOK! It's the funniest thing. Last night at work I put my pocket book in a drawer, and a few of the nurses said "Karen, your phone is clucking!" And I said - How do you know it's mine? DUH!

I have a serious question. I have a mutt chicken that grew up with Natalie. She hasn't been eating, I watched her this morning and it looks like she's convinced that she's not allowed to eat from the feeder. She will eat grain on the ground, but not go to the feed bowl. Rather than let her starve, and she is thin, I put her in with my Mille Fleur bantams. I hope they get along. She's not a big bird, and the roo is doing the dance, and she is eating like a vulture.

Has anyone else ever had a chicken that was like "off limits" to the feed bowl?

Maybe she is low in the pecking order and was taught by the others she wasn't welcome at the feeder? Maybe something really bad happened while she was at the feeder? Maybe she has a little chickie inferiority complex? Anyway, I'm glad she's happy with your bantams, AND I'm sure sure appreciates being looked upon as an object of desire!

Lovins - could Little Yellow have some kind of pituitary or metabolic issue? Poor bambino! Does she act like a normal chicken, otherwise? Are her feathers of good quality? Does anybody pick on her because she is small? Her brother seems very accepting.

Sorry, I an terrible at sexing, but the first does look rooish.

Did J. Matts every get back with you? Did you inquire about eggs or started birds? I have noticed that egg requests don't get much response in the breed in question.

Believe me, you are no worse than me!

Nope he/she never did get back with me. I inquired about eggs.

Did you get eggs, finally, or did you have to get started birds?

BTW, the people that said my light brahma was a pullet may be right!
