I may be one of the few, but I'm not averse to eating chicken... my own or anyone else's. I just can't do the deed.

These were the first chicks that this has happened to....I will never do it again! Thanks Phage and Blessed....

For the TN Chickenstock...the fall sounds great....this will be happening on a weekend, correct?

I'm not either, but it would be hard to off a personal friend. So if you're my chicken, you'd better bloody well be friendly!

However, I think others may have issues. So perhaps no chicken at this BBQ! If I'm wrong about this - everybody bring your unwanted roosters!

In my experience (limited at best), if the wing feathers are growing in and the don't make a nice neat row but are more jagged then they are roos.

When can you tell...crowing or egg laying for sure

I have also been able to tell when the topknots develop "streamers" that don't round out the shape of the topknot = roos

Edited to add: my average is about 94%- not as good as a vent sexer but not to shabby.

Definitely on a weekend. I have a :gasp: full time regular old job that requires me to work. I haven't gotten the chickens sufficiently trained in typing to do my work for me. I will take a few days off before the weekend to get things ready.

Emmalynn, can I have your opinion?

I sympathize. I have tried and tried to teach the dogs to drive, but they have such trouble reaching the gas and break pedals..........
