What to do about all these roos??? I am pretty sure that in my "standard" brooder I have at least 4 roos, out of 8 total in there I hatched.

In the "bantam" brooder, I think I have 6 hens and 2 roos (all silkies) so that's not too bad. But the others, well, I'm gonna have to rehome some. And on top of that, I think my duck may be a drake (the one that survived. Geesh.

At the end of day 18, I have a wiggling SF egg! Of course I candled yesterday, so I knew they were all alive... the bad thing is, they are in the same bator with other eggs I'm incubating. Long story and one I don't care to relate, but the other bator isn't operational right now. (And it's my own stupid fault.) So I had no choice to but to leave them in. I think it'll be ok. But I'm hoping their hopping around in there doesn't mess up the great start I have on the sizzle eggs. They are packed so tightly and still stacked, so they can't really kick the other eggs around. Sigh. One day I'll get my mess together. Right now, I figure if i remember to brush my teeth and put on deodorant, I'm doing good.

And on top of all that, NC Chickenstock is tomorrow, and I find out I have a bad tire on my van! Both my hubby and son need their vehicles for work and I can't get it fixed until they get home. And hubby says it's not safe to drive that far. Since I'd be bringing two 5 year olds with me, one my sick child, I'm afraid to chance it. Bleh. Bleh. Bleh.

Nava, are you out there?? I was supposed to get turkey poults from you tomorrow. Don't carry them up there for me. I'd hate for them to make the trip for nothing... So sorry about not being able to go.

So you don't think you are going either, now? I hate it because I was really looking forward to it. But if it's going to rain (I didn't know) I'd hate to have my daughter out in that... not to mention that makes the tire situation worse probably. I haven't even looked at the weather. I still hope they get a good turn out.

Thanks for all the kind words for Clarisse. Yes she was the one who was molting.

Clarisse was my first hen. I got her from a hatchery at 16 weeks old. I opened the box and was horrified that they had debeaked her. But swore that I would never let her know that she was different. She was the alpha hen even tho she never bit anyone, and no one ever bit her. She was always professional and business-like about her duties in life. She probably laid about 700-900 eggs in her short life. I don't think production chickens were meant to live long.

Thanks for listening.

WooHoo, Kathyinmo is sending me some B/B/S Jersey eggs. She was lucky enough to get some eggs a few months ago, and had told me that she would get me some when they lay. Well, they started to lay! She's really been working hard on getting a show quality line going.

Roos? I'm keeping any that I have. I'll have a bachelor pad, hubby will kill me but my present roos are all sweethearts, the Jersey cockerels will snuggly up to my face, and take a nap. How can you rehome such affection? I haven't even given them any treats yet!

My poor flock of hens have lost both their roos in the past year, and most are squatting for me every time I see them, and one has mounted another hen, and one has been "cock-fighting" thru the fence with my silkie roo. And even dropping a wing and doing the challange dance. I keep telling the girls I'm growing them a man just as fast as I can!

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope you don't mind if I crash your hatching thread, but from what I've read so far,(I'm on page 89!) you gals are a very welcoming group.

I have already had 2 successful hatches of non-shipped eggs-16/18 and 29/39. these were for customers who responded to my CL ad for custom hatching. Presently in the bator:

13 BBs Orps from GumpsGirl
17 Silky/Showgirls from Fowlrus
15 BBS Silkies from Ebay (Canyon Critters)
!5 Showgirls from Ebay (Frog-something)
7 BLRW form Bishops Chickens
13 BLRW from KinderKorner Kinder sent 20 eggs VERY well packed and the stinkin' PO managed to crush 7 of them.
I think they were just tired of all the egg shipments I've been getting and decided to show their
displeasure by dropping these directly from the plane as they passed over my house.

I just finished building a seperate hatcher, so I'm I don't have to keep opening the bator to take out chicks.

So that's it for now. Will update later and keep reading this thread. Thanks everyone!
