kelseygirl707 started a really good and informative thread about what to look for in a seller (actually it is an AWESOME ebayer) that will ship well and cares about the customer. One of the items everyone seems to agree on is the seller replacing eggs for shipping cost if they are damaged in the mail. Nobody wants to buy from a seller where you could quite possibly be throwing your money away if the eggs are broken by the PO because the seller didn't pack as well as they should have. And I am not saying a bad pack job - I am saying as well as they should have.
I've bought from people where the box was treated really roughly (one even had a big hole in it!) by the PO and not a single egg was broken. I was good with it even though I had a low or 0 hatch rate from the rough handling because the seller had obviously made a real effort to get the eggs to me intact. I even had one seller double box when I warned about Houston PO personnel treating boxes badly. I don't mind paying a somewhat higher shipping cost as long as it goes toward egg safety and not just upping the profit.
When eggs come all broken and messed up like that I feel they certainly should have been packed better. I have had 0 hatch rates from inadequately packed eggs even when none were broken. That bothers me because had the seller showed a little bit of concern and made a little effort I might have at least gotten a couple of chicks out of 18 eggs. I understand that just because you have a 0 hatch rate you can't blame the seller and I am not doing that.
It bothers me to no end when you receive broken eggs and the seller says 'too bad, so sad, not my fault, the PO did it, you are not getting anything else from me and I don't care. ' and act so put upon that you had the NERVE to ask. I understand the seller wants their money and profit out of their hard work, but how about a little concern over folks who spend their hard earned money they earned through hard work? Some people seem to have no concern over the customer and that is a real mistake. Because unless you have something unique, like Gary's SL Brahmas, there is almost always someplace else to go to get it. All you have to do is look. Nobody wants to take the risk of throwing away money for nothing and a kick in the @ss and an attitude.
If you have no concept of customer service you shouldn't sell eggs.
There, rant over.
ps I have also had a box that was well packed smashed and had broken eggs - but a couple of the unbroken ones hatched because they WERE well packed. I'm good with it!
pps Look! There is a btch on the end of my name!
Don't mean it aint right!
