OMG!!! I can not believe what just happened!!! I REALLY CAN NOT!

So I had two bators going for the past few weeks right...? Bator #1 hatched out the weekend of the 18th. bator # 2 started on the 23rd and was done by the 25 which was day 22.

I did a head count tonight and I got 27 from bator #1 and 22 from bator #2 for a total of 49. I cleaned and resent bator one almost immediately but have given Bator #2 the extra time because (I was lazy) and because the rest of my new eggs do not come until tomorrow. So I unplugged it and began to clean out the shells and unhatched eggs when ... can you belive it I HEARD PEEPING!!

I franticaly begin looking for which one it could be...there were 6 left in there. One of ILOVEFRIZZLES Frizzled cochins had pipped on the bottom and was still ALIVE!!! IT IS DAY 25.

I thought that there is no way. Well no way it should still be alive and no way it is going to make it now. It has been about an hour since I hatched her out. She had a hard time stretching out. I mean think about it she has been on her head and pipped for several days. She was not even shrink wrapped!!! I LOVE THAT GENESIS!! She is standing on her own. i have given her some food in there because the yolk was absobed days ago and she looks a lillte thin. Think about how much of that yolk energy she has use to just stay alive waiting for me to be responsible!!!

Lesson learned for me. Check all eggs when I take the last chicks out!! I never do because I want them to have every chance!

That makes and even 50 for me if this one makes it. Her name is "late for dinner"

Can't wait to see pics of the new babies, Nat (and Kristin).

Carrie! Lav Orps! Oh my! I love those! I actually like anything lavender. I have lavender sizzle in the bator now and i'm fighting the urge to candle it everyday.

BJ, that's excellent for shipped eggs. Hoping your hatch is great this weekend.

And guess what about Imelda (chick with the bent feet and toes and maybe spraddle). She is now without the splints. Still has her boots. Her legs still appear to be a bit far apart compared to the others but she's getting around as fast as they are. Her toes are still curled a good bit when not taped, but the are slowly getting better.

And I'm telling you, these are the quietest, calmest chicks I've ever had. They only peep when I am messing with them. If they are left alone, they never make a sound. They are calm and do not run from my hands. Even the best chicks I've had before were not this laid back. It's just a totally different personality from any chick I've ever had. They are not sickly, just quiet. Amazing.

And can some one tell me what makes chickens biters?? I've only ever had one that was, and she was evil to other chicks and people, too. I was kind of glad the coyote got her. But I've a got a roo in my brooder now who is only about a month old and will bite the snot out me. He's huge, and hes beautiful, and I hate to get rid of him. But I've never had a chick this young be this aggressive and bite like this. He's an obvious roo. Even at this age. Could he just be hormonal and it will get better? If not, if he's gonna get worse like most roos do when they are older, he's gotta go. He's a mix. I do have 3 other roos in the same brooder, so could that be a problem. But they are all the same age.

ETA: He's not mean to other chicks, except the silkies who I had to make a new brooder for. He pecked their feathers off their backs. He's not pecking me. He bites and hangs on.

Aces, congrats on your late for dinner chick. I always candle the unhatched before I turn the bator off.

Blessed, I don't think I've ever had a chick that was a biter. Is he harassed by other chicks?

I just added
20 more special recipe eggs (I am quitting this project is this fails, with these I have spent $100 just in the hope to get 1!!!!! I still have 3 due to hatch in 6 days

I did read the now deleted comments.
I think the poster was upset that someone was selling and cashing in on Gary's eggs so soon. Not the place for such comments as unfair to the seller,
I was also wondering what the roo/other birds look like. Presumably there is at least a roo.

No, just the opposite. He's kind of the "leader". He's not mean to them either. He did have a problem with the silkies, picking at their feathers, so I separated them and put them in a separate brooder. I assumed it was because they look different, because he wasn't acting mean, just constantly picking at them like he was eating their feathers. There are only 7 chicks in the brooder he's in now so it's not overcrowded and he's definitely the largest and the one who is already showing his "rooness". I'm hoping this is a phase and he straightens up. I did have Cuckoo Marans roo that got cocky around 4 or 5 months old, much older than this one. He didn't bite, but would bow up at me and want to charge me. A few lessons and he stopped that and never did it again. But like I said earlier, I've only had one biter, and she was a hen, and I never was able to break her. She was nasty to everyone, even other chicks. This little boy, so far anyway, is not. Just me. But I've got little kids, so I can't have a big roo acting like that.

We've been calling him Bulldog because he bites and hangs on. But its not gonna be funny or cute much longer. He's starting to hurt.

A lady is coming this afternoon to buy my 2 week olds, and another lady is coming on Sat to buy my 6 week olds, and a third lady might be interested in buying some of my 7 month olds. I'm so depressed. And to top it off, not 1 of my cochin eggs is doing anything. To be expected after that long of a delay before setting, but still. I know I'm gonna bawl like a baby as soon as she pulls away with MY babies. She sounds super nice, but who cares. They're MY babies. Life sucks.
