I find with the BLR, I set them and pretty much leave them alone. I don't candle but I do check heart rates (I have a doppler), I do this once, pull any without heartbeats at 2 weeks. of my own, I'm getting 100% hatch, of shipped eggs, greater then 80% (only one set is blr and they are due tomorrow so they don't count). I will say when I was starting my flock, I bought alot but didn't get many to hatch.

Doppler of eggs!!!
I LOVE it!!
How early can you detect a signal?
What incubator do you use and what sort of doppler machine?

Blessed, sorry you had to go thru that. My bleeder is now my broody silkie. When it happened I was so upset that I threw some flour on where she was bleeding, and went to bed. She was normal in the morning, thank God.

Blue + Blue= blue

If you need to rescue a chick during a hatch, I picked up a good idea. Take a bottle of warm spray water, spray the remaining eggs before you close the lid.

lav x lav = 100% lav
blue x blue = 25% splash, 25% black, and 50% blue

I have a chick buddy (Doppler) and an avey incubator. With the avey, I turn it on, fill the humidity tank and leave it. it automatically adjusts the temp, turns the eggs and humidifies the eggs if needed. it can even be set to call me in a power outage. the only thing it doesn't do is remove the hatched chicks, I need to do that.
the doppler can be used at aobut 10 days depending one what your hatching. they say 5 days, but I've never gotten very good reading that I would trust at 5 days so I wait until 10 days.

I usually dry incubate and I got eggs from Florida. I don't know if it's the breed or the environment it came from but my 2 tries so far have been shrink wrapped and waaaay too much water loss. I have my last attempt in my brinsea with both wells full. Am crossing my fingers

Pics were taken but i cannot find my camera cord. Grrr. May have to go to store and put on disk and then upload them.

Congrats on hatches to everyone. I have to put new batteries in the camera to get pics.

I have the tiniest black chick I have ever seen. It seems healthy, but I can't believe the size compared to the others.

I am infinately glad that my hatches are over for this year. I was a little disappointed with 2 of my 4 hatches. I am also glad that I have 3 of Nat's baby olive eggers from the last one. I am going to actively seek a nice cabinet bator for next year. Maybe I can find one over the summer or next fall.
