I've never lost a chicken to snakes...never had a snake problem

her eggs were still warm...and she wasn't stiff...the guineas didn't see the snake because the broodies were in a cage separate from the flock...I have 4 broodies in that one cage...

Showing ACD open dog this weekend. Dobe is old and finished. My boy just needs 2 singles to finish, but CO shows, CO judge, and CO pro handler. The dog she won with yesterday, she literally had to hold up off the ground for the judge to examine it was cringing so badly, in the open class. Yes, it does take a gazillion dobes to make a major.

Do you show in conf. or obedience?

There doesn't seem to be many NM chicken folks. Sound like most of this group is from back east. Wish we had chickenstocks and such here. I've got 28 lav and 8 black Ameraucanas, and 10 of hoppy's BLRWs in the bator. Expecting black LF cochin eggs this week.

Did you get lav cochins from JamesA or something else? I tried to PM him with no success.

Oh, geez. I bet those guineas would have done a number on that snake if they had seen it.

I'm so sorry.

I got BLRWs from JamesA.

I show agility(have taught since 1987), obedience, tracking(my true love - I owned, trained and tested 2 of the total of 5 CH TDX AmStaffs) and conformation only when I have to. Get a championship and GET OUT. Don't like it because, as you mentioned, far too political.

Last little AmStaff b!tch we finished had her natural ears, too. Even though the breed description says "Natural ears preferred" it just doesn't seem to be so. You can't even import cropped ears into some EU countries nowadays, so US judges better start getting used to seeing them.

Anyway, used to do flyball, too, until it got WAY to serious. The extremely competitive types are trying to make agility no fun, too. That is why I like tracking so much, it is pass/fail but you have to have a very trained dog to pass a TDX or VST.

I have had both my knees replaced in the last 2 years due to a car wreck way back in college. So I officially qualify as a broken down dog trainer and don't show agility near as much as I used to.

I still train and teach agility and show a couple of times a year, but the show surface has to be very friendly to me in order for me to want to show. I'll do our National Specialty this year, but that is going to be it.

I'm starting to train obedience more because I'm not as mobile as I used to be. Man, in the day, I could RUN!

Thanks, cl32.

I bought some lav cochin eggs from ebay out of CA and the ones that weren't cracked were clear. She offered to send me more for the the cost of shipping, but her shipping cost is twice the actual cost and they were poorly packed. Why bother!

brindlebtch, you sound dedicated. I didn't know theAmStaffs were so good at tracking, or you're a great trainer.

I would like to see the dobes go to natural ears. Most of the people who crop ears in my breed are not vets, and I shudder to think the anesthesia or lack thereof that is used. One gal who does a lot of dobes in TX says shes a vet but isn't. Unfortunately, the ears in dobes are so long and incorrect, it will be hard to find a correct ear to breed to once ear cropping gets banned which I think it will eventually. I, myself, have cropped ears at the last hospital I practiced at. I used full isofluorane anesthesia and opiod pain meds. The clinic I work at now does not do ear cropping as a policy.

Where is you national this year? I was down in Belton, TX for the ACD national last Oct. My boy won his puppy class.

AmStaff Nat Spec will be in Hutto this year. Even though it is nearby and is in the Triple Crown dog training facility it is one of my least favorite show sites. Its nearish Austin, which is the best thing to be said about it. Next year will be in Las Vegas.

If they ever outlaw AmStaffs I might go with a cattle dog. They seem to have a lot of the same attitude!
Congrats on the nat spec win!

Very few people work AmStaffs, which is a real pity. They are extremely intelligent dogs.

If you're considering an ACD look at the Reddenblu website. Their dogs do it ALL. I am so happy I made the trip north. They are in Thunderbay Canada. Attitude-wise they are up for anything. Very willing to please.

Are we off topic???????? dak

i'm sorry chickenlittle about your hen , that's poor girl.

so quiet here. saw brindle very bored earlier. I have had a great day selling chicks. I have a big poultry show next weekend so people are scrambling to buy for best selection. I had to figure what I was holding back and what I was letting go.
most of my older stuff is gone except for 2 blr and 2 marans, even the bantams got sold. I have light sussex eggs I have to check tonight. I candled them the other night and they looked so wrong for the ages. 8 days along, some are very dark, so either bad or alot further along then they should be (I'm thinking very bad although they don't stink)

I checked my frizzle/sizzle chicks today. I think I may have 2 silkies and one frizzled silkie. now I have to find pictures of 4 week old silkies to know for sure, they are wicked cute and at least these are full fuzzy and 5 toed.
