I, personally, believe it is because it was started at $500. If you start to bid at $100, or even $300, you commit yoursef that you want these. As the price goes up you justify the extra expense to yourself. When the first expense is so high it is harder to commit that much outright IMO. Also, none of the buyers have posted pics

. I would help knowing how their hatch rates are....if they are getting only 4 or 6 to hatch then those are some real expensive chicks(and with my luck they would be all cockerals

iM WITH YOU bigtime. I think starting at 500$ to avoid what happened last time was a boo-boo. All though I didnt follow very closely last time but even starting at 200$ might have gotten a few swing bids??? Im broke as mud so I couldnt do it either way-but last I heard James was at 22 in lockdown-none hatching on day 21!

well, not that it's within my budget either , if I told dh I REALLY wanted them he would probably tell me to get them BUT there would have to be a guarantee of how many chicks I'd get too. I hate spending over $100 on failed hatches, couldn't imagine $500

you have got to be frickin kidding me!!! I went to my brooders to water everyone and the california white I picked up to add to my laying flock jumped right to the door to see me, and it's comb is already red!! When did this happen?

I got it because I have no white birds. I picked up 2 chicks when I had a lone hatch last month and nothing else was going to hatch for at least 10 days. I got a silver spangled hamburg and a splash andalusian. The hamburg got a red comb at 3 weeks, the lone hatch did too, the splash acts very rooish and comb is starting to get a little pink and I think they are about 6 weeks old.
So back to the california white....I also bought a gold laced wyandotte at the same time and that one is pretty shy so I am hoping

. I wouldn't mind if I bought these straight run but my feed store supposedly doesn't buy straight run, only layers and meat birds. What are the odds of me getting the only darn roos?!?!?! I have a hard enough time getting rid of the roos I hatch

the maine spring poultry show and swap is this sunday, bringing lots of chicks (or not so many chicks). I sorted the larger ones last weekend, sold most of those and sorted the youngest ones last night- bringing probably 10 blrw, 1 show girl, 1 silkie and 3 black copper marans as well as hatching eggs.

Nah, never! You just have to think TROPICAL.

When we first moved here, oh so many years ago, I had to learn extreme shade gardening because that was all I had here. After several years of experimenting and reading I finally got the hang of it and was quite pleased with my yard's appearance.

Then Ike came through and removed all the trees and I am having to re-learn. Fortunately, I have always loved crinums and had just enough sun for them. Now I have plenty of sun! Too bad for the hostas and most gingers, though!

I will have to look into day lilies. I have been trying to go with mostly native plants, with indifferent success. Sometimes you just have to go with that gorgeous blooming tropical! Therefore the freeze devastation. Some daylilies are really beautiful. Any recommendations for hot, humid weather day lilies that are repeat bloomers?

You should be able to grow some awesome stuff in Florida.
