Ya, I guess you can hook it up to a battery. If you don't have a charger, then solar would work. I think a charger would be better. It's supposed to hold a charge for a couple weeks, then just recharge.

so it's official, the colors I wasn't sure who they belonged to were from my lav girl, guess I am just not meant to have lav birds....fox got my lav ameraucana last fall
sad.png
. The dead girl was my golden cuckoo marans. So, 2 missing with one of them being the lav but since there were so many feathers I don't have hope for her. 2 of my 3 w/bw ameraucana came back, so I am missing one of those girls still. I am assuming since she didn't come back she isn't going to? I don't see any trace of her, not even any feathers...the rest started showing up around 5:30 this morning making a racket so I ran out and opened up the coop and they went in....

my girls have been fighting like roos today, pulling each others feathers out and such, hackles standing up and sparring. Is this just from stress and the loss of some of these girls. The dom hens are still there and are just going about their business but last years girls are fighting....is it a change in pecking order to fill the void? any ideas?

Thanks Nat, It is a sight! I was so surprised when I lifted the box top and found it in there! DH told me to calm down, I was scaring the chickens!

The dark egg is from Susan's FBCM that I hatched with your egg! Such an exciting week. And, our County Fair starts next week and they are having a most colorful egg basket contest. Don't know if I'm too late to enter or not! Thanks again for such healthy eggs to hatch!

I'm sorry to hear all this krista. i'm thinking hawk if there is a puff of feathers. i lost 5 in one day to a hawk and his family. they took all my buff orps and left my silver wyandotte (which is why I have wyandottes, I think the mottled pattern helps them hide better)
I suspect they are fighting for a new pecking order or just the general upset from what they witnessed. as far as keeping hawks away, I use the giant pinwheels if you can keep the kids from running off with them. they also make a silvery "flash" tape sold by johnny's selected seeds (I'm sure others have it too- worked there so I know) and this will also frighten off the birds.
