hey hoppy, how many chicks did you end up with?

I have 6 frizz bantam cochin under a broody and 2 had hatched this morning. Hopefully the other 4 will!

I just bought 12 Frizz LF Cochin. The way the egg carton was packed allowed it to slide back and forth and impacr the sides of the box. Every single air cell was free moving. Do you think there is any hope?

brindle, that sucks about the eggs.
I so far have 7. I need to ultrasound the remaining eggs but I don't think they will hatch.
I ended up with mostly buffs even though most of the eggs were marked white.
I've got to get ready for chicken swap in the am- round up boxes.

Ahhhhh nooo Brindle.

Bummer.

I got 2 lots of exchequer leghorns. PO did a number on BOTH lots that were sent, and there were 4 smashed eggs in each box, and yolk EVERYWHERE. Still got one out of 24+++ eggs to hatch. Yup and it is a roo. Never seem destined to have those beauties...... sniff.......

OMG Phage your luck with those is about the same as mine with BLRW's!!! I'm sorry to all of you with your recent eggs

I guess it continues to make me thankful the hatching is done for this year.

I so need a friend for my little cotournix quail. She seems soooo lonely. Poor little thing. She loves it when I pick her up and talk to her. Maybe I should buy an aquarium and keep her in my office... hmm....

Funny how I never had any problem at all hatching out the BLRW. Maybe I should take the hint from the Ex legs and stop hatching!!!! Wish you were closer Lovins, I would pack up my spare BLRW and send them over. Only really want to keep one.
Actually I currently have NO eggs incubating but only because I am going away

Will definitely slow down next year. Don't have the room to keep more chickens, and rehoming is so time consuming.

Rehoming IMHO is the worst part of this whole shindig. Well that and culling sick birds. I hate that too. Compound that with NO avian vet within the nearest 4 counties and it's messy. Right now I have one I am sure needs steroids due to an injured left leg and no avian vet to get them from... YAY! I looove my chickens... and my quail even if all of the buttons are flaky LOL.

There are a bunch of vets on this forum so you could always ask opinions and then buy meds online. I would definitely try that. You have nothing to loose and may get the help you need for your bird

. There are also "lay" people here that know WAY WAY WAY more about birds than most vets do (not Dak though). There is also a vet site online with "on call" vets that you can ask, but not sure of cost.

Sadly I am a mere MD-wanabe-vet although ALL my "patients" are now furry, feathered or scaly. Almost went to vet school after med school. Doing what I do now gets me the closest I can to doing what I love, and can be a lot of fun !!! Wish I could help more.
Latest patient: Marine rescued sick seal for MRI scan:

I am pretty sure you can buy them, just need to be sure that they are the correct treatment.
The actual content is pretty much the same as the human equivalent, except I would not take the stuff for animals........

Lovin, I can't believe you're really doing it! That looks like a whole lot of labor of love!

yah me too:) except mine was an emotional flash! cried a few hard minutes now smiling again! I'll confess-I went off my happy pills. Its been 10 days-I needed to do it. I was sick of relying on something that calmed me down and didnt allow me to speak my mind. So If you havent noticed Ive been a little hostile in the past week or so. LOL

Yea, me and my friend's father call zoloft our "I don't give a $hit pills" Ain't that the truth. If I didn't take mine, I'd be hiding under the table and never come out-too much stimulation. No wonder me and my horse get along so well, she suffers from being easily overstimulated too! Hmmm, lightbulb moment.
