Hi Sharkies...

Looking for some advice...I have been contacted by what looks like a back yard breeder in Oregon who wants me to ship he a Mottled java rooster I have posted on CL.

He is 26 weeks old. I have never done this before. I know some breeders websites say they will ship started birds but for a 26 week old rooster...really?

Some thing just seems off. She is offering to send me a shipping box and pay shipping...? Am I being too cautious or concerned for his health and well being?

Just looking for a reality check. Thanks in advance guys/girls!

My trio of Cochins just arrived from Minnesota to New Mexico and did fine. Flying from Minneapolis to Albuquerque then a three hour truck ride to my PO. I think heat is more dangerous than cold. Most people seem to wait til this time of year to ship older birds.

Scanned the DY - best so far by a long shot

. 2 great embryos, and you were right, one did die just before the other as they are different sizes. The shipping must have shook them though as the aircell was ruptured, and there were air bubbles about. Also the larger embryo had lost its amnion. Not sure if it is part of being a DY or a shipping artifact (suspect shipping). I guess the more pools of liquid in the egg the more likely they are to get jumbled. Older embryos should travel much better. Will post pics when I am back in San Diego (working this WE in LA). Anyway definitely worth the effort. THANKS SO MUCH

and keep them coming.

Glad your son will have new silkies! but how about a macho bird for him like a big fluffy Cochin!

he's still small, maybe when he gets bigger.
I did have the most beautiful wyandotte/cochin x. it was a blue barred, but I couldn't keep it. not enough room and couldn't tell the eggs appart for wyandotte chicks.
