Thank you all for your kindness...I love BYC and especially this thread. I found 2 young pure coronations from Phillips Acres Farms for $200 shipped. I sent the information to the young man and I hope he follows through. I freaked out and threatened to call the police when I first talked to him on the phone (his dog had a tag). I was pretty hysterical. He came right over and to be honest, I do not think he believed me when I told him what I had into my chickens, just monetarily speaking. I went inside, grabbed my laptop and googled coronation sussex. He lost his color pretty fast.

Beyond, money. These birds I hatched and raised every step of the way. They were more then just livestock, they were my friends. I am so glad my husband was home and heard my dog barking and went to investigate. Otherwise the carnage would have been worse. The dog was in the hen house tearing up my babies. My flock is still outside in the rain and are terrified to go into there house. We had to physically put every bird into the house at sundown. The feathers are everywhere.

The dog lived a MILE from my house...out of all my birds, why those 3? I took pictures and emailed them to the dogs owner with the information for Phillips Farms. Will see if he lives up to his word. Otherwise, I guess I will have to call animal control. I have dogs of my own and understand that some are bred to kill small animals- but it is his responsibility to at least try and rectify his damage.

If it had been my dog, I would be coughing up money so fast, it would make your head swim! If I didn't have the cash on hand, I would offer payments or put it on a credit card.

I hope he won't, but if he turns out to be a dead beat, you can add the cost off the eggs, feed, time etc to your small claim, I think. At least you could in Tex., just make sure you make an official record by making a report to the police and animal control.
