I've heard of the lipstick method, how does one use food coloring? I need to keep track of 2 hens...I don't have lipstick (just glosses and lip balm) so the food coloring would be better. Put it on a q-tip and smear it?

. It would probably work, I just haven't heard that one before and found it very humorous, sorry. Ok, food coloring method. Drop a drop at a time onto her vent, she will suck it right up in like she does when a roo mates her. Give her a good 10 drops. It should leave fine streaks on the egg. The girl I did it to looked like somebody ever so lightly just ran a blue colored pencel down the egg.

I'm glad I am not the only one who lets their minds wander!

Okay...how long does the food coloring method last? Days? Does it affect the embryo? I'm kind of more turned off to the "sucking up" part of using food coloring on the girls. The lipstick method may just be more appealing. Now to go buy the right shade for the girls...

Puff..Puff...Puff. Whew! Just came in for a shoveling break. The guy who plows for us couldn't get down because all the tree limbs were so weighted down with snow that they sank into the driveway, so now I have a forty foot driveway to shovel.


I put the color on the girls two nights ago, and haven't gotten an egg since! I think they know what I'm up to and are gonna keep their legs crossed or something. That is certainly a tricky thing to do for one person! I can't imagine having to do it on one of the big girls! And, I didn't do ten drops like J said, just three or four - and it did get sucked in! Kinda gross, yet fascinating at the same time. I'll let you know when I get anything.

I'll add that finding the irony in most situations and laughing out loud doesn't bode well in public, unless you can bring people up to speed on your thought processes. Most times I can't and come across as coo-coo! I'm straight jacket bound...it's my future.
