Sharpie on their nails?

I was thinking of marking my chicks by coloring their nails with non-toxic sharpie. Has anyone tried this to mark their chicks? If so did it stay and work for you?

I have heard others do that, many hatcheries actually mark their feathers on the heads The only issue with I can see with marking their toes, is that the chicks can see it and may peck at their feet. I have used chicks bands. They peck at those, but it won’t hurt them.

I know they will peck at red but if I use other colors was hoping it would be ok. Thank you for responding.

I've successfully marked mine with dark colored nail polish on the toenails.
