Shavings or stall pellets?

Stall pellets would be nice if chickens actually had watery poo. Instead they release "pearls" and shavings will coat and "hide" the pearls.
Hay and straw, if you want to know why not to use, go check out Emergencies/illness etc, there is a graphic photo's why not to use lawn clippings, hay, straw, or anything like that, not something I want to do, although I have hay in my nest box, they don't want to begin eating ANYTHING out of the nests.
How big are those pellets anyways? If you put pellets down, Pellets in the feeder, can they differentiate between the 2?
Either way, personal choice is yours.

I was thinking that I would use pine shavings and DE for my chicken coop and keep my stall pellets for my ducks. I just wanted to see what everyone else thoughts were. Ya'll have been pretty helpful, thanks!

I use pellets for a few reasons--

I use them for my horse, so they are easily available.

They compost much better.

They absorb way better than shavings and can be cleaned up easier (I just sweep them up once a week).

Now, to deal with the pellets not breaking down, when I clean out the coop and put new pellets down, I evenly spread them on the floor and then mist them, which breaks them down. I fluff them up to make sure they are all soft.

I would not use this for a deep litter method because you couldn't fluff the bedding.

I don't care for the deep litter method. I prefer to clean the coop frequently and have the girls on clean bedding as much as possible.
