Shaws call duck incubation thread (hatch a wonderful(worthless to Ralphie) dux thread)

View attachment 1454565 View attachment 1454568 View attachment 1454569 my little duckie is a big girl now :hit She prefers to be with the others most of the time now. They are all being really great with her around I'm pretty shocked at how good they have been. Still keeping a pretty close eye on them but all seems well for now.
She is getting her own barn built today for her So she can move out of the house :gig

Awww how precious! I know the 2 oldest ones are both female. Did you say the next 2 are males?? And you don’t know about Rain yet?

Jax looking pretty ragged. :gig

Yep. The two I hatched with the call ducks are boys. We are going to have to re home one of them.
So far they are mellow and not trying anything. . but it will be trouble soon I'm sure.
I am believing rain is a girl, I attempted vent sexing and didn't see a weenie. But it was my first time so I could be wrong. . I hope not. But she is a lot more vocal and busy than the others were so I think that is a good sign.
So far It has seemed like the boys are quieter from the start and lazier. :D

Once they go through eclipse do they go back to their original colors? Or will they be different in any way?

I think they go back to their original plumage. Maybe a little more defined than their first year. :idunno

Those boys are so gorgeous they shouldn’t be hard to find homes for. Will probably be harder for you to let them go though.
Unless you wait until they start misbehaving, then it might be easier. :D

Oh ok.. thank you.. i was worried i might need to change my gray drakes name. His head is no longer green and Charity named him Gilbert Grape..:p

My drake duck went back to normal around September October. Ralphie duck born last April has never gotten the blue fawn head. . I'm anxious to see if it changes this year.

I've gone back and forth between selling one or both Cayuga boys. I hate to split them up but then again whoever gets them will probably end up splitting them up anyway. . and rain is more friends with them than the girls so I kinda want to keep one so she has a friend. The other girls still honk like she has rabies whenever she comes near! :lau

All the waterfowl are molting like crazy. I went out today and thought someone got eaten. Nope, just enough molted feathers that I could make another goose out of them. Poor Lacie has one loose wing feather dangling that hasn't quite let all the way go now. They look so ragged and awful this time of year.
