No worries I didn't sterilize them yet lol! I'll start wiping tomorrow, I'm too tired tonight to handle eggs I value if I can help it. Clumsy happens!

Prime example of all the different info that's out there. Some people really want to clean them, others dead set against. Easy to get lost in that thread then scratch your head trying to apply it to calls.

All the embryos are actively wiggling around. Think I have good odds of getting a few with 9 alive this long?

So true about conflicting info! One of my biggest pet peeves. I think ya just gotta go with someone you believe and trust, and do what you feel is ok.

Since I like Ralphie, I may try sterilizing eggs some day. Most of my eggs are super clean, except the dux of course, most are clean, but I'll get muddy ones on occasion. Of the 16 now, I think 3 or 4 are super clean.

Mud everywhere here too as well. My chicken eggs are clean enough but that's amazing really. Nothing else is clean.

I'm here with you guys for the duration as you are actively hatching calls. Easy choice.

I have to say, the eggs I've had to toss from this batch happened to be the dirtiest ones. Really noticeably dirtier than what's left growing. They were shipped so I don't know what else is different but that's potentially interesting.

It is not just the dirt, now true if the dirt contains Poo-ish substances it will also harbor germy bacteria and or viruses, as we all know all living creatures are shedding viruses in their droppings, dander and so forth.

I was extremely reluctant to dip my eggs into bleach the first time. Bleach kills things! I was assured by the vets it would help and not hurt.

I have to be honest I have never felt like unleashing the plague of this world by hatching DUX. But is some ways DUX resemble birds. Eggs is one way.

I have an egg which is severely cracked incubating right now. I did put "nuskin" on it after I had washed and disinfected it. I doubt it would be alive if my incubator and all the things in it were not sterile.

I open my incubator the other day, and I got the clean smell from the incubator. It was pleasant. I remember before I disinfected how had they could smell.

The eggs are really sensitive to substances during hatching. They are the embryos lungs. We worry about the moisture because too high and the birds drown, too low they dry out and the air sac crowds them. Does it not stand to reason moisture can get through the shell (in and out) other things can too?

I know my hatch rates went up once I started washing eggs. If I was pickier about the eggs I try to hatch it would be higher yet.

If I could find a NPIP source for DUX eggs, I would like to try them, just to see what I can learn from them. Of course I would cull and eat the hatchlings on day one. I could not live with myself if I left a DUX to harm my offspring and their offsprings......

I feel like you should definitely try a batch. Just for you know, science. Can't eat day one though, it'll slant your numbers. You'll need to raise them a bit, give em a bath etc.

I would need them from and NPIP source and I would not waste food on them....

Dux are not really for eating..




















They are for composting.

If you cull them before they've had a bath in your tub then you can't even count them as hatched!
