I actually did try to remove a fly from a very small snapping turtle. It was in the corner of his mouth but I couldn’t even get close enough without endangering my fingers.

That sounds like great entertainment after a days fishing. We could all sit around the campfire drink a barley pop and bet on how many fingers you will have in the morning. :lau :lau

That is a good fish tale!
1.Cannot catch that many Pike at one time.
2. Throw back that big of fish.
I totally get they are viscous creatures! 👿

I dispute number 2. I have been in Way up in VWN and caught 40-50 in a day. About the third week of June they go nuts.

Lol, what are you accusing me of 😉

1. Up there we’d catch probably a hundred fish a day, easy... ranging in size

2. the slot limit means you must throw back fish that size, and they are extremely strict about it... plus we most often portaged to the lakes we fished off the main lake, so carrying the extra weight of large fish was a drag... but occasionally we’d keep a big lake trout... mostly we’d just keep a couple smaller ones for dinner

That’s not the worst thing I’ve ever tried. I attempted to release a giant boar raccoon from a snare I had set on a crossing log for gray fox. He had a big rub spot so his fur was shot. I got the wild idea to release him with just gloves on since I forgot my catch pole. Well he seemed pretty docile for a little while until he turned into a monster. I almost had the snare off his neck when he decided I wasn’t his friend. I came real close to going and getting those rabies shots. I’ve released plenty of raccoons since then but never from a snare without a catch pole. Your hands are just too close to their mouths with a neck snared coon.

Oh poop!!!

I have never released a raccoon alive.

But I have released several Pine Martin and a timber wolf once. I always pin them with a Y branch. ( cheap catch pole).

:bowNot the amount of fish, specificaly Pike  catch that many Pike in one day! IMO they are can be plentiful, but hard enough to catch and bring in, let alone so many in one place at one time.:eek:
