Shaws Snow day Silliness and Southie Sense of humor Thread

Since 2004 in the California Delta, I’ve observed the fish and wildlife population and diversity crash. I haven’t seen a black crowned night heron since 2012 or a thread fin shad since 2005. I quit fishing to allow the seals something to eat, and started raising chickens for food instead. Various reasons, including reduced flushing of the estuary because water diversion to populated areas, illegal pesticide application and runoff, habitat degradation, deliberate herbicide application directly to the river by local government against the wishes of waterfront owners who do their own mechanical control of river weeds. Local cities get their drinking water from the Delta. 🙄 Wait, I’m not here to get political. I was just going to make a punchline. Our crappie are crappy. 🤪
Excellent punch line and a bit of excellent history too!

These are pictures from this past fall. I like to fish for bass with small flies and small rods. I do use big flies but only when I’m tired of catching bluegills. Bluegills are a lot of fun on a fly rod though. Most of them fight harder than a bass of equal size.

Back when we had fish in the river, I’d use the smallest rod and reel and use a pliers to squeeze shut the little barb. Harder to catch the fish and easier to release it. Just grab the hook’s shank firmly with the pliers and turn the hook point down. Fish slips off and swims away.

You guys need to stop with fish pictures. The last fish I caught was over a month ago. It isn’t cold enough to ice fish here. I also don’t think the neighbors on the ice would appreciate me bouncing flies into their little holes.
The fish wasn’t very big either. 🙄

Hey now I hope you threw that little guy back in the ocean. I can see from all the way over here he’s not past the size of a store bought frozen game hen :wee

One I caught a few weeks ago. Ignore the mud, I was standing on him trying to yank the smaller fish out of its mouth lol.

Yup! This happened once and I was able to disentangle everyone and release them ok. Another time caught the little and had to bring him in quick before the big could gulp him. Ah, fond memories of when the river had fish :hit :wee
