She finally did it!

It was pretty golden looking. Soft shell for her first. She has been eating oyster shells for about a week or so, but her body hasn't quite nailed down the process. We'll see how the second one comes before i get too worried.
that is very common at first.

I would not worry either

Egg 2 and 3 on day 3. They were attached. The one that popped was just a yolk.

Then egg 4 on day 4..

I was hoping to hollow out her first egg and keep it but that's looking like a failed mission. Maybe she'll never have shelled eggs... :idunno

TSC here sells a vitamin mix bye durvet that is an egg laying booster. You can also give them some free choice oyster shell calcium

I'll check out that vitamin booster cause she has oyster shell available to her and I know she knows where it's at. I mean, how long are soft shells considered "normal"? When do I start to worry? She seems fine ofcourse, eating and drinking.

Okay, so just on hand I do have nutri-drench and it seems to have all the same vitamins, it just doesn't have the marigold and the probiotics. So I'll probably go with that for a few days just for a boost. See how it goes then get the other if things don't improve.
Nutrudrench is a good one to use!

If that does not work, casportpony has instructions for liquid calcium.

Hoping for the best though! It has been hot which messes up their nutrtion

Egg 5 on day 6. I saw this one come out of her.
Now on to the weird or not so weird part. Who knows.

This I stole from Angel (leghorn) of my chickens at about 4pm. I looked around and saw Sandy(the soft shell chicken) and Buffy (buff orpington) eating a white. Now, this one feels like more of a shell. And since drying has hardened up to the point they can't eat it. Ryan believes it's a "white" egg. But if they're young doesn't that just mean they're working on the kinks? Our only white egg layer, Angel, is only 17weeks old. Our buffs are the same age as Sandy and only one of them has been doing the squat. So I'm assuming she's our best bet I am lost. Sandy has been laying in between 6-630pm consistently so I'm pretty sure that means it's not hers.
@casportpony any wisdom you can share?

Eggs come out hard. Coming out soft and getting hard is a wives tail.

I have had a couple of hens lay eggs in my hand. The bloom will be wet for a bit but the egg shell is completely hard.

Calcium pills with vit. D, like costco sells is the next step. Cathy will have details

Oh. Interesting, I must not of been paying attention to the details when i initially stole it from the chicken. I pretty much threw it up on that railing and left it til Ryn got home hours later.

Haha. In your hand!? What in the world! I'd probably pay money to see that! :)

Who knew good eggs were so hard to get! Geez!
