I watch a video of a chicken getting a bath for a show and they just used baby shampoo.

thanks I have bathed them with dishwashing detergent before. One had a very poopy butt and I bathed her in side and then used a blow dryer on her. Also used my bath liquid soap on roos when they tried to kill each other before I seperated them. Bloody mess. Stupid testerone laden birds. Anyway I bought some antiseptic spray for her and Im going to go use that now. Vetericyn Wound and Skin Care. It was 29,99 for a 16 fl oz bottle with sprayer. I was going to just shower her but it is actually cold here today. Was hotter than hades yesterday. I was afraid to just bath her because of the wound. I just wanted to clean out the hole really good. Ive let the other out to roam in yard area today and put her back inside their coop, run area. But it has a dirt floor and she got a lot of dirt in it. Unless she did that after I put the blue kote on it. It was 8 pm when I dressed it last night. Im going to try to clean the dirt off with the Vetericyn and them redo the blue Kote. The Verericyn seems to speed healing. Or at least thats what the reviews said on TS site. I just hope this heals and she does not get anything else. Im still not sure what caused this. She sleeps up on branches about waist high inside an enclosed area. No other chickens were harmes . So i don't think it was an outside source. Like predator. Im not certain when it happened and they go outside and still are in a fenced in area. I keep them in a contained part of my yard and I don't know if the Roos spurs caused this or she just pecked it until there was this hole???? I have beeen checking Ethel ( this one ) and her sister Lucy every 3 days or more to inspect the regrowth of feathers. This one has less regrowth than Lucy does. I have been scratching off dry skin and or applying lotion or sun screen to their skin since it was extremely hot and sunny out last week. I even washed them both a time or two to get dirt off from dust baths to inspect their skin etc. This just happened in a short time. Would a mouse do this??? their coop does have a mouse that steals their food. Also not a snake because their egg box is up about chest high. They sleep on a bunch of branches I intertwined in coop that are almost chest high. Their bottom half of coop is being closed in with boards at present but is only half done. Anyway I am throughly at loss as to what caused this. They have not been attacked by cats or dogs. Unless a coon tried to swipe them through the wire. That is why im enclosing the bottom of their area to protect them better. Anyway I better go and treat her wound. Any more suggestions from anybody would be appreciated. A friend told me to get pine tar to keep her from pecking I should have gotten it today. I might have to try that tomorrow.

I bought some Vetericyn Spray for my chicken I got some gauze and surgry pads and wrap. I applied a thick coat of neosporin after spraying with the Vetericyn and wrapped her up good. Did same last night and she flew out of coop today when I let her out so she is doing good. Just have to watch her to keep Roo off of her. I am going to put her someplace alone tomorrow or keep the Roo penned up while the girls are out. I have not seen the other girls pecking at her. It is pretty well covered anyway. When they sleep they don't peck. I had to leave them all penned up today while I went and got some more neosporin and other supplies. I hope this scabs over quickly. All reviews on the spray I got said things heal quickly when using that. I sure hope so. I saw a hugh Coon in yard tonight so He might be the culprit for the sore on her back. I did hear a ruckus the night before I found the wound. The coon might have reached through the wire and hurt her? I am gonna have to take extra speed in getting the sides upon the coop. Hate Coons.

so it has been almost a month since I found Ethel with the gaping hole in her side. I think it took longer to heal because the location . When she flapped her wings she pulled it away from area and kept it gaping at top. She would always flap her wings when I brought her inside and started to take her outside again. She would try to flap them when i was wraping her with guaze and vet tape. I think another week (hopefully) she will be able to go without bandages. Not going to press my luck. I will keep her bandaged until it is strong enough to not break open again. I am starting to think this was from My aggressive Roos spurs. I trimmed them last night but could not trim very far cause one started to bleed. So he has blue feet today. I think he had some red scales on his feet so I tried Vaseline then just used the blue kote on both feet. He got those red scales on his feet after last winter when I did deep mulch bedding. I might not do that again. It did keep the ground warm but this winter they will have an area with a wood floor to sleep in so Im probably not gonna do the deep mulch again. Might put some insulation under the plywood If I can get to it before winter gets here. They have about 4 feet up off the ground under their coop that is just screened in will be covered by winter. So the insulation will really make their floor warm. Anyway Im pleased with the progress of Ethels healing I got some electrolytes with vitamins to add to her water. Used the Invectin and neosporin and kept her wrapped and clean so all is good. Might keep adding the vitamins to help with feathers. Other hens are coming along nicely. Roos are molting now. He lost his tail and looks off balance. lol.
