Hi, this is my first post here, my chicken here is around 5 years old, about one week ago she eat less than usual and having a difficult to breath like in the video so we brought her in the house, but she still go out for a walk from time to time( in the garden), we did buy a product for her and mix with the water to clear the throat.
and then 3 days ago she didn't go out, just sleep the whole day, but still eat a bit.
and since yesterday she didn't eat at all, just sleep and refused to eat at all, we tried to force her into eating and using all the help we can but she still refused and we didn't want to force it any longer since it's hurt to see her trying to refuse and shaking all the time, she can't even stand, her body is trembling from time to time.

here is the video

she is dying right? should we let her alone? my dad can't stand it at all but with the covid situation and there's no vet in like 80km from out house.
in the video next to her is her best friend, she came in alone and sleep with her for a week now, should i put her outside and let her friend die alone? i don't know if it's a virus or something i don't want her to get it too.

thanks in advance

I’m sorry, I don’t know how to help in this situation since I’m just a newbie, but I really hope that you’ll be able to figure things out and help her.

How old is she? She might just be passing away due to old age. If it is just old age she’d feel comfortable with her best friend by her side until the end, but if it is a disease you’d need to get them separated. Does her poo look normal? Does her vent look normal? If you look at the tips of her wings do they look normal? Has she stopped laying? I’m not an expert, but I do know that people will ask you all of these questions. The more information the better.

she's about 5 years old already, not sure about her poo since she didn't eat, but well i think it's due to her old age, her wings look normal, and about laying, my chickens rarely lay an egg because we bought them when they were about to get killed, they were farm chickens who didn't lay egg anymore and the farm wanted to get rid of them so we bought them in, anyway thanks for the reply though.

I’d say she’s just passing away from old age. She would most likely enjoy hanging with her best friend until she passes. Her friend might tell you when she passed by being loud. I’m sorry that this is happening, I hope you can spend the last few days with her in happiness and joy.

Just wanted to say I hope your hen was able to pass without too much difficulty and that you're doing OK, though probably sad. It was good of you to take in "spent" hens so they could live out their natural lives with people who care about them, even if they are no longer laying. That's the kind of thing that reminds me of how good people can be -- and I need a lot of reminders these days.
