We left for a weekend away, all 3 chickens fine (1 broody but been there for a week or so - nothing new) we came back yesterday to find our strongest (leader of the pack) not looking too well, picked her up, she was very light and felt like she had lost some weight. Then tuned her round to check her rear end and OMG!

I wont go into the description but the photo shows it all, she seems to have lost a layer of skin and all the feathers from around her bum and has a leakage of yellow fluid coming from her vent.

Her Poo is very watery and has small lumps of what looks like scrambled egg in it. She is hunched up not moving much just stood on a perch watching the world go by, and looks like she is in some pain.

It sounds like she had an 'egg blowout' or so my aunt calls it. I found one of her chickens like this not too long ago. It is something that can happen to any chicken and is never good. I am very sorry this happened to your girl.

Vets confirmed, egg peritonitis, but the wound was not necessarily linked - she has gone to the "big coop in the sky" now :( :( :( :( :(
