We found our peahen was egg bound, so I got it out of her and she is not doing well, Im afriad we will lose her. Any idea what we can do for her? She is a blue indy, she is 3 years old this year. She has laid 2 eggs so far. We have been giving her a mixture of sugar and vitimas by a dropper. She just sits around with her wings down hanging her head...............

I'm so very sorry for your loss. It's NEVER easy to lose one!

May I ask, just out of curiosity - you said she was 3 yrs. old and had laid only 2 eggs? I'm wondering...do peahens just begin laying that much later than chickens, or did she have something going on before this? Thanks, and again, so very sorry.

A peahen has to be 2 years old before they start to lay eggs. They only lay 10 to 15 eggs a year and they do NOT lay them few eggs one egg aday, they will lay an egg and then a few days later lay another................

OH, I see. Wow - that's sure a labor of love, then, waiting that long for eggs that come so few & far between.

With pea fowl, the male has to be 3 years old to get his full"train" and a hen has to be 2 years old to start to lay eggs.

With swans, they have to be 3 years old before they will start to pair up and mate.

That is the reason they can cost so much money because of the time it takes them to reach maturity to reproduce.

WOW, Ed...I'm NEVER going to complain again about my chickens taking 32 weeks before they begin to lay! Gosh, yep - you have to be in for the long haul with peas and swans, it sounds like! I admire you!
