Oh my gosh! Im fairly new here but Im in tears over the OP heartbreak and then again with the overwhelming generosity of AHappychick! Like most of the others, all I could think was "I wish I had the chicks she wanted..I would send them to her"!!! You guys here at BYC ROCK!!! And now I feel all mushy inside...

Im SO glad Im a member here ♥

Sounds like you need to let you parents read some of these replies and they might get the picture!! Your lil sis would have been in a butt load of trouble if she lived in this house and definetly would have been made accountable for her actions!!

to you!! So sorry this happened!!

that sux!!! more than words could express. what happened to personal responsability on your sister's part. if she's old enough to have chickens she's old enough to own up to killing yours. so very sorry baby

I would be flipping mad too if my sibling did that. On the other hand, I would never in a million years allow my chicks to be anywhere they can get to, let alone in their room. I honestly can't believe your parents aren't doing anything about it, and to add insult to injury, they're blaming you. I'm outraged just reading this. I feel so bad for you, that your last chance of getting these special birds has been ruined by your stupid sister. My sis is 8, and she would never do anything like that. hugs

When things go terribly wrong, you can't always put it back "the way it was" no matter how hard you try. So sorry for the incident. Glad your sis apologized, eye contact or not, just accept it and move on. A sorry apology is better than no apology. I think she "gets it" by now. Just hatch those lav eggs as best you can, and run for the gold with what you have. Don't grieve for what you have lost. In life there are a lot of losses in your future. Greiving over them and moving on helps you to appreciate what you have now, and in the future. Thank goodness AHappyChick sent you those lavender eggs. Now go ahead, raise them up and KICK BUTT at the shows!!! And post lots of pics of your new babies!!!!

Prom, just go with your gut. Do what feels right for you. I was never a "prom" type person myself, so I don't have any great advice on that one, except to say that ditching your dress in a hedge and getting horses out and galloping all over the hills behind the school with your friends by the light of a full moon is MUCH more fun!!!

AHappyChick, you are most definitly one of the reasons I joined BYC. I am new to chickens, and couldn't imagine going through all of this. I can't believe yours sisters roasted all of the chicks, I'm so sorry sweety. Life goes on, and I know it's going to be hard to put some of this behind you like the loss of those poor babies, but you have lavender eggs on the way and you can cherish those babies. As far as prom I'm sorry you can't go since you're home-schooled. I would say if you were closer and my step-son was older he'd take you. He's a real ladies man, but he's also not quite 14 lol. And you can always take comfort in the fact that you're getting the chicks, the boyfriend was going to disappear one day eventually. Then, down the road years from now who knows, maybe your sisters will get the chicks thay've dreamed of for years and thier kids will roast them, or feed them to a stray cat. Then I'm sure they'll know how you feel. Ever hear the song "I'll pray for you" by Jaron and the long road to love? Listen to it, you may find it applies to both situations. And did you ever find your banties?

What a thread. So glad you will have a chance to raise some wonderful birds after your difficult experience. Please keep us updated on your hatch and brooding of the new babies when they arrive.

So sorry that happened! We recently lost 9 of our most favorite silkies when someone let our chicks out during our absence and my dog killed them. My 9-yr old son was completely in tears. Your sister certainly is old enough to take care of them. Even my 5-yr old does.

We have some white silkies from A Happy Chick. Her silkies are beautiful and she is a sweetheart. Unfortunately we lost 4 of the ones we got from her but I still have one beautiful white Silkie and a Showgirl. I'm so glad you are able to get some more chicks!
