If many people hunt that land, I'd imagine that runs alot of the deer to your land! Sweet!

Oh yeah, freezer full of venison.

Don't tell Amy I said this, but upstate NY is gorgeous. I know that NYC is just a blip on the map of NY state, but it's just so much funnier to lump her in to the stereotype. To tell you the truth, before I joined BYC I would have bet money that keeping chickens was a southern thing. That's what I like about forums like this, you get to talk to people that you normally would never get to meet. I'm sure that in every state, most people are normal friendly people, but there are those that fit the stereotype. I'm sure people think we are like Honey Boo Boo, but we're not. Oh, there really are people like that down here, but we keep them next door in GA:gig . Just think of SC as ground zero for the tea party. Well, upstate anyway. Honestly, I would say that Duck Dynasty would be a closer representation of the majority of people that I know and hang out with. If you watch the show, I would be Jase

This is perfect for the original intent of this thread. I've never weighed, I've never marked an air cell. First incubation in styrofoam didn't work. First in the Brinsea, the humidity was good, but the temp was off, so I hatched 85%, but it drug out for 3 days from days 22-24. Second in the Brinsea, the temp was good, but the humidity was too low (Thanks Amy:smack ), so I hatched 50% on days 20-22. Third in the Brinsea, temps were good, humidity was good, and I hatched 95%. I haven't changed a thing since. I don't mark air cells, I don't weigh, I rarely candle, and I hatch 85-95% every time

This is just remarkable to me. I can't remember, did you stop turning? The low humidity is what surprises me. Those eggs had to have been incubated some before you got them. Have you found out how?

Amen, brother. Sheesh, that poor chick

I've never been to NM, but I've been to AZ several times, and I assume it's similar. I didn't care for the central and southern parts, hated Phoenix, but up north around Prescott and Sedona is breathtaking. Sedona is the most beautiful place I have ever seen. Still wouldn't want to live there. I need my grass and trees

If you are going to quote Larry the Cable Guy, get it right.
That's funny right there, I don't care who you are. Lord, I apologize. Please be with the starvin' pygmies down there in New Guinea
I wish that I had the talent, or the cajones, to try something like that

Jase is my favorite! That beard though

Well my temperature idea is accurate with the top of the eggs. I checked it a few times last night and today. Steady holding 100F and humidity at 35%. Hopefully this is successful!

Only 19 long days to go

That's a perfect picture! What do you use to candle?
My late father-in-law used to be a police man and it's one of his small hand held flashlights. I actually bought a "real" candler and it was horrible! I returned it and now I love this one!

SC, what do you keep your humidity at through days 1-18 & then lockdown? I don't remember if it was stated in the sticky to this thread. According to my weighing, I need to up the humidity but I'm already at 40% dry. I'm torn with what to do with these numbers but I guess knowledge is power. Also, are you far from Myrtle Beach? I'm sure you're rolling your eyes at me. ;) I used to vacation there in North Myrtle beach every single summer when I was younger. I know it's a tourist area so I doubt I got a feel for the real S.C.!

I run 40-42% in a Brinsea. Is this your first incubation? Seriously, I wouldn't worry too much about weights and air cell size. 40% is a good median number, and you can always make adjustments after you get your results.
I'm about 3 hours from Myrtle Beach, and that is not SC. It is a tourist town, and good for what it is, but if I want to go to the coast I go further south, like Charleston area. When you get out of the main part of Charleston, you get into more of the less developed old south. Upstate is totally different. Close to the mountains with a lot of lakes

When I was in high school, we had to catch our own frogs, chloroform them and cut. Mine was big bull frog!

Nope. See, I would have taken the F and walked out. No way I would have killed a frog intentionally. When I was a kid, we had a creek (down south that's crick) and every summer after the tadpoles hatched that thing would start to dry up. So I would fill my spare aquarium and set it up, and go fish the floundering things out of the mud and put them in my aquarium. It was awesome getting to see their transformation from tadpole to frog every year. Then when they grew out I'd take them back and release them. By then it had usually started filling back up anyway. At one point I had this one frog, adult frog, I'd go back at sit at the edge of the little "tide pool" (it fits, don't worry about it,) and wiggle my hand in the water and he'd pop up and come close enough I could rub his head and he'd just close his eyes and let me. LOL So, ya, killing wouldn't have been an option. I would have been Elliot in ET.

Every farmer up here has chickens and since we are in farming country, that's a whole lot of chickens. It has it's beauty I guess. Especially around the Adirondacks. I hear A-bay and Boldt castle is pretty amazing too. Never been. I had an bf that took me to our side of Niagra Falls, it was nice, but I would love to see it from the Canadian side.
I can't help it the Brinsea didn't like lower humidity. I don't recall recommending it for Brinsea...lol

I have NO water in my incubator. Humidity is from the ambient. Remember, it's summertime in FL. If you are thirsty, go out and get a drink of air

Humidity is lower with the AC on and the heat in the incubator brings it down even lower, but it stays in the 40-45% range mostly.

I did not stop turning. Who knew chicks would hatch on day 14???

LOL, I'm the opposite. The bigger the beard the better. My husband had what we called a "duck dynasty," beard. He got it trimmed it and cut his hair recently we had a wedding and another one soon and he's in the wedding party so he got all cleaned up

My daughter cried because he looked so different. Haha she said "Daddy looks terrible!" as she was sobbing...it was funny. I know I'm terrible.

Come visit my pond, and try to sleep when Mr. Big Bullfrog is feeling froggy. Good gracious, I'm about ready to start target practice when them there frogs...

Haha! Bearded men do look totally different, even un-recognizable without their beards. My hubby just has a goatee... and I won't let him shave it!

Truth be told, I think you and I are the two that figured out the Brinsea didn't like it. I like giving you a hard time about it, but I chalk it up as a valuable part of the learning curve. Now we know to ask people what kind of incubator they are using before we start giving humidity advice.
The chicks like being locked up. You just would never guess it to look at them
