She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

One of the escapees. This is the feather footed pullet. Her boyfriend is too chicken to come to the aid of a damsel in distress, so he is running back and forth, never getting close enough to get caught.

Here is another of the 9 week old microchickens next to a 9 week old broiler.

And the 13 week olds:

I love the coloring of this EE. I think it's a pullet.

This little cockerel is even prettier in real life. His crows sound like he is gargling.

This pullet has amazing foot feathers. I still don't like her body shape, especially compared to her less feathery sister:

A couple more of the 13 week olds

The barred pullet at 9 weeks, turning into silver pencilled. The face is Ameraucana with muffs not clearly seen in this photo, and slate shanks with no green. Beak is black and horn. She should be pretty.

And a photobombing Narragansett:
I love the coloring too! This is why I love my chickens, the differences in the coloring. The one you said you love that you think is a pullet..That coloring is so cool.

I start my chicks using game starter. When they transfer from the brooder pen at about 4 weeks to the grow out pen I give them one 5lb bag of the manna pro medicated starter, to prevent cocci. I have not had any birds exhibit coccidiosis yet. I really dont want tainted eggs or meat. Living in a ver hot and very humid area I would imagine cocci to be a problem. That is the only medicated feed they will get in their life time.

I only do medicated until 17 to 18 weeks. After that they get layer feed. It's super hot and muggy here so I can only give them a little feed at a time because the food molds after 3 days.

Your birds are looking really nice. I like the black/white less-feather-footed one, too, the Colombian looking one and the silver. Wonder what color eggs you'll get? Glad you caught one little escapee and I hope the other gets caught soon.

I made mine from my hens feathers when they moulted have you not got any lying around

I do - I'll tie some together when it cools off.

Very nice, I think they're the hardest to sex.  But if they crow...
The bottom pic, I'm fairly certain the black one is a roo, but they all look so similar. There's a couple I'm sure are pullets, but most are somewhere in the middle. I bought 17 straight run, so really hoping for at least 8 or 9 girls

Will comment on the wire floor brooder first. If you are using wire floor cover it with the Deodorizing drop pan paper it is treated with Neomycin. Cuttler Supply sells this.

If you raise chicks on wire that is not covered you will most likely have cocci when they hit the ground. Cover the wire and sprinkle some feed on the paper to start off. It is a good thing for them to eat a little crap as it will help get them immune to Cocci. I use a small amount of flake shavings after about a week.

Is there a chicken harder then a silkie to sex? I have 7, 8 wk old silkies and 6 of them look like boys! My odds can't be that bad, can they!
Agreed, I think silkies are the hardest. I have four silkie youngsters right now, and it looks like 2:2. Crossing my fingers they're all female!

I always do medicated start and grower.
Hahahaha!!!! Do the boob thing until then!!!

not today dear I have a headache and my sides just healed from the last crazy thing you started .I'm going to get it all on this one I use medicated chick starter for the first week then change to non medicated. my hatchlings stay in a box brooder for that week. they go from that to wire floor brooders and from that to wire floor growers from that to dirt floor growers they will go into the layer houses or be sold or eaten. what happened to professor Snowbird
