I think I have a problem. Lock down was last night, and today I looking for my next eggs to hatch. My other chicks are only 4 weeks old. And this is about a week after I had wished I spaced the 2 sets of chicks further apart. Because after buying an Eco Glow 50 - I don't want to go back to using a heat lamp. I wonder how many chicks I can fit under a heating pad. 23 eggs made it to lock down, but at least 2 are iffy. Maybe I have enough, but hatching is so much fun!

Thanks for posting this! I didn't even know about the interviews. That was great.

I don't know how long the liquid can be stored if not mixed... it should either say on the website or you can ask from wherever you buy it from... think twincities.com is one of the main vaccine distributors or check jefferspet.com... I've heard the wafers for Marek's store longest and best, but don't have actually experience with it yet... I'm planning on vaccinating all chicks in spring and all adults I can with the other vaccines...
Might want to ask Don for more info, this is best I can give... I've decided to go the 'better safe than sorry' route... too many birds we've invested a lot of time and money in...

Blech, just received a box of eggs... every single one is fully detached, free rolling air cells... :/

Thanks for the info. I'm going to start vaccinating because there are so many of us keeping chickens on my road alone. I do have a closed flock but I'm worried about airborne illness. And some of my chickens are my pets so I really care for them, and like you said, I've invested more $ then I ever planned on already. Sorry to hear about the eggs. I'm dealing with the same. Tomorrow is day 7 and I have not turned them yet. I'm hoping they have reattached. I know how disappointing it feels! :hugs

I feel your pain! I ordered eggs weeks ago and I'm itching to get them. I am getting a little fatigued with having chicks in a brooder and trying to integrate them though. Might let what I have grow out for the coming winter.

That's how it starts. So you add a pen for them, then you sell them in the spring. Now you have an empty pen, so you get another breed. Then you need somewhere to raise those young...
I'm being serious. That's exactly how I got to 7 pens in 6 years. Go ahead and say it now: No new birds. I say that every year. Did I tell you I bought Ameraucanas?

Hate that any chance they will right themselves .

guess I was lucky with mine 700 mi. and not one detached air cell .usps handling must be getting worse. but who do you complain to. that would care? tracking a package is impossible. ordered a turner motor once again saw where it was shipped and from the sorting center and that was it .we need to all email the post master general a nasty letter.

Were they from Jean.  My package from her had a very rough trip.  Most of them had loose air cells, so I let them sit in the incubator without turning for 6 days.  All but 1 reattached.  If I get another shipment like that, I think I would candle on day 3 or 4.  There is some evidence that the most important time to turn eggs is from day 4 through 7.

No, these are different lines... swapped eggs/traded...

Shipping is always a crap shoot... gotten good batches and horrible ones... it is what it is, and we hope for the best... :)

Agreed!

I took pics of my 9wk old silkies today. Do you know how hard it is to get them to stay still for a single shot? I'm thinking maybe I have more girls then I thought. I'll try to post from my phone (I order a new phone too!) but sometimes it won't let me post more then 2 pics at a time. I need everyone to guess for me, I have 7 that need to no longer be androgynous! ;)
