I keep my silkies advertised at $8-10 straight run until they start crowing. Then the boys drop to $5 and the girls go up to $15, but they are always for sale

Now, I can see the cost difference if the meat tastes better. I've had fabulous beef in Iowa, and tuna that will make me turn my nose up at a steak, and if organic feed did that to chicken, I would pay for it.
Now, if the only difference it makes is making their feathers smell like patchouli oil, then I'm buying me some Purina

Well, grass is cheaper than organic fed or Purina...and the steaks were cheaper than the local grocery chain...it's just an 80 mile round trip to the meat market. So I'll buy a half, since I just added 18cf of freezer to my basement.

When candling you do so from the bottom with the air cell up correct?

I prefer to hold the air cell up if incubated up, or horizontal if incubated horizontal, but I always shine the light in the air cell end.

My wife and I have discussed doing this. I know a guy who started raising grass fed 4 years ago. He is getting quite a reputation for his beef, so we are talking about buying a half a cow

We bought a bull calf last year, we were gonna breed him (Since he did have papers) but he took things into his own hooves when he wouldn't stay in the fence. I must say though, he was quite delicious
