My eggs just arrived from ebay. 6 royal palm turkeys and 8 fbcm. She sent 2 extra. I am pleased to say that there are no damages and the air cells are intact and located in the wider end. I have them sitting in an egg box on my kitchen counter. I think I will set them in 12 hours because they look so good. I will have them upright without turning for about 5 days. I will probably candle days 8, 14, 18 and 25 (turkey) They will move to my new diy bator for lockdown to hatch. Does this sound like a plan or would you change anything.

The same has me I heard you have to turn a odd number whether it,s 3,5 or 7 times a day. Do you turn until day 18 as I have read somewhere that some people stop turning at day 14

Yes, they say turn an odd number so that the eggs don't spend the night on the same side night after night. I follow this method, but in trueth I wonder if it makes any diference since they are being turned during the day. I have always turned up until lockdown, or left my turner on until lockdown. This hatch I am not going to turn after I do my candle tomorrow (day 14).

My earliest crower was between 7-8 weeks and I have one in there now that I've heard try a few times, again starting between 7-8 weeks. I think it's so funny hearing them that young.

I changed the wafer in the old redwood Leahy last night and improved the little foil disc that shows which way to turn the knob by gluing a fender washer to the back of it. Now I have a solid lock down for the wing nut. And with the new wafer, temps over 12 hours are 100...100...100. It's amazing what $10 can do for a vintage incubator.

The EZ Bake, on the other hand, has been swinging from 98-101 in the same time frame. Even though they average the same, I prefer the slow radiant heat of the Leahy over the stove burner coil of the EZ Bake.

Now if only I can figure out how to safely add scads of humidity...I wonder how it was done when this incubator was new? There is no water pan, and really nowhere to put one.

I love vintage stuff may be it was a mist injection system one thing I tried before was a small drink bottle with a fish tank air pump and air stone I put 2 holes in the cap for 2 air lines a little bit smaller than the air line for a good seal. one just went through the cap the one with the stone was at of the bottom of the bottle and connected to the pump I put the other air line through A vent hole in the bower top and filled the bottle half way with hot water this would bring the humidity up as long as the water was hot when the water cooled the humidity would start to drop bear in mind I was try to get up to 75% might work for you

IMO, that odd number turning thing is just an other bit of poppycock thought up by the "they say" crowd just to make the job more difficult. Yeah, in theory, if you turn 2 or 4 times/day, the eggs will end up spending the night on the same side... but... what difference does it make, if you turn first thing in the morning, and last thing at night, unless you're one of those folks who spends way too much time in slumber land. I also put to rest IMO the idea that it's necessary to turn eggs before they go into the incubator. I had my best ever hatch from eggs that I plucked from a basket on my counter. (22/23 that went into lock down.) No turning, no parking them pointy end down. Next hatch: the eggs will stop getting turned at day 14, just to push the envelope a bit more.

some folks wait 24 hours I'm one of those I have a question about the DIY bator and a suggestion did you stand the fan off the wall so it could draw air from behind and you should you should put something in front of it to defuse the air it looks a bit large.
