She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Also thinking about building a few tractors to grow out meat birds. They go for 30 bucks a processed bird around here. Hoping we can grow out around 50 every few months and help with the income a bit.

Just a warning, a tractor full of meat birds quickly gets WAY too heavy to move. Build it like a utility trailer with a heavy duty frame and real wheels, and tow with a lawn tractor.

We grow them 25 a batch indoors, in a wire sided tent. Your climate is a little warmer, but up here they tend to get chilled when outdoors as they are not well feathered.

Be sure to keep the lights off at night after 2 1/2 or 3 weeks, when they start eating like hogs.

We process ours at 10 weeks and they are 5 lb to 8 lb dressed, and we get $5.50/lb for them packed in shrink bags, or $5/lb in common poly freezer bags.

My power just went out and it's going to be several hours till it comes back on due to a car knocking the pole down. Should I move my eggs and incubator to my grandmas house about 2-3 miles away?? Please help!!

Yeah. . . A tractor probably isn't practical. We're trying to figure out the way that makes the most sense for us.

Thank you.

Turns out the land across the street from the house we are looking at is a game ranch offering upland bird hunting. So I may have a market to grow quail! This house looks better every day.

I've ben busy all day trying to get coops up. Wondering about the bar that holds the eggs in place do they rotate when the turning plate goes back and forth . seams like that would be a catch point. another question does the turner rotate the egg 180 degrees . growing quail for game ranch sounds like a good deal. You can fit a lot in the GQ .and we all know you just love to hatch.

If you can do it safely, take them over there... had mine go out for a couple hours and even putting baggies of hot water in there my hatch was delayed and really off...

Everything's okay, I hope. I've just been in a lot of pain(stabbing, spasm type stuff), and it's in my back but it isn't my back. They did a ct scan last night and found nothing. Inconclusives everywhere. I should have been relieved but I wasn't. They threw antibiotics and pain killers at me and sent me home.

I hate both of those things. I'm allergic to the pain killers, but I guess they think I am lying about the pain, b/c no one will listen to me. "Just try them. Just take them anyway and see what happens." Umm. . . I know working in an ER is really tough, and you see a lot of liars and people who exaggerate, and I hate to be a bother, but I don't think a lower dose of Tylenol is going to help with the extreme nausea, hot flashes, and itching those LT give me.

That was the nurses solution--the norco only has 325mg of tylenol, so it shouldn't make me sick. To me, that points to her assuming I abused them and overdosed on the Tylenol and got sick or something. But, I'm probably just in a bad mood. So, here I am, up at almost 3am(!), the lonely only, complaining about stuff; reading about ct scans and chickens. . .

Where is that soapbox you guys had earlier this week?

Pigeon is feathering out so prettily! She's gaining on her mama
Great pics!

I've been following the development of my project poults for three months now. One of them has a color pattern that I've never seen before. The father is a Golden Narragansett and the mother a Bronze, so all the babies should have been Narragansett or Golden Narragansett or Bronze or Red Bronze. But this one was different.

As it's getting its adult coloration, it appears it is a sport, a natural mutation to Oregon Gray. That's a variety thought extinct but Kevin Porter "recreated" it based on what he thought the genetics should be. The genetics of mine is different than his as mine has no gray gene bred in. I love the color and would really like to have a flock of these. I can't wait until she has all her adult feathers.

I love turkeys, that is a very pretty baby, will be great to see her all feathered in.

Just did a quick candle on top of all 32 eggs in my bator, and I have excellent development in at least 26!! Possible 6 clears, but too early to be sure. Bad news is 3 of those possible clears are out of the 4 silver sebrights. One is definitely developing. She actually wasn't sure on their fertility anyway, so I knew it was possible. All 6 japs looks great!
Excellent news, it sucks to lose any of them.

What did you do about them? I'd be worried to have wild birds near my chickens. Esp with AI

I don't fill my wild bird feeders any more. Best to be safe.
