She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I'm back from the deep woods this is just a little pay

for Walnut wish you all had been there to help eat all these. slow cooked over fresh hickory with just a little Crown to help get us through the night. My brother and I camp out at our family cemetery in Ark every Labor day and do this for our Family reunion / cleaning

.. some folks might think it a little strange but we know most of the dead folks there . Neighbors and old child hood friends stop by to eat . the little cemetery is all that's left of a two section spread . long sold by a large southern family. Our ancestors fought in the revolutionary war . this one fought in the war civil war . you can see which side .no offense intended by this picture none of us knew who put the flag there . we left it .

Don't you be worrying about offending someone with a piece of our history, sir! If someone can't handle a flag of our history and representation of our culture, then they aught not be here.

I was thinking about a 60 watt bulb in a cinder block placed on it's side. Then place the waterer on the block. Anyone tried this?
I have a pintret pin with what you describe, so apparently someone is finding that it works.

Ok, guys, maybe too many pics, but anyone with critiques, feel free to have at it. This is my first time with Ams, but I think I'm off to a pretty good start: Splash hen Splash cockerel. Here you can see the purple sheen molting to green in the blacks Blue cockerel with a black beside him. Tight combs Comb from the side. This is the biggest boy, but his beard is looking a little haggard, and he is the one still showing a lot of purple Purple sheen Green sheen Group shot Gee, sorry for all the pics
Decent looking group, sc... nice... that blue boy looks like he's got good lacing, but too hard to see the others... you want even lacing with fairly even coloring in the blues... do you have any blue pullets too? And can you get side shots of each of the boys?

With your temps getting above freezing during the day, you shouldn't need much heat. What are you using for water? Bucket and nipples? A submersible aquarium heater would work. I use a heated dog bowl, and love it. I put a gallon jug in the middle, to make a "moat" so they don't walk in it. Where my temp gets below 0 and will stay there for days at a time, I can't afford having my gals get their feet wet. Also, the moat helps keep them from dragging their wattles in the water. A cookie tin heater would work nicely for you. What ever you make, just be sure that it is safe... Water + electricity, heat + shavings/dust are all dangerous combinations. I think that Bee Kissed (also WV) put her water bowl in the middle of an old tire, and that kept her water toasty warm b/c of the solar gain and insulation provided by the tire.
I love the aquarium heater idea. I use 5 gallon jugs with water cups so that might work perfectly.

I do have a few blue and black pullets. I will see if I can get some better shots. The girls aren't as eager to pose as the boys

Somvabetch.

Found a property we like that is zoned agricultural-residential and allows farming. We are currently in a residential property that does not allow agricultural usage, and file Schedule F to maintain commercial farming status for protection under the Michigan Right to Farm Act.

Because we are currently commercially farming, despite EXCEPTIONAL credit and income that meets tests to support well in excess of what we want to buy, lenders don't want to back a loan, even on a property that has no tillable land, no livestock facilities, essentially nothing that makes it suitable for a "farm" (though it will support our backyard poultry, even a steer or horse).

I've spent the day contacting lenders, now going back to the VA to see if I am eligible...

I've thought about that, but my lines coming out of the buckets would still freeze. I don't know about the cups
That's why I'm hoping it works. The cups have been working great for us.

Good luck Walnut!

Was afraid of that. Uncle was in western KY: eastern WV a bit colder

even where I live in middle Tn. it gets cold enough to freeze my water barrels solid in the winter . you can circulate the water with a pump. if the gpm's is enough it will keep the water from freezing. what I did to keep my house pipes from freezing when I couldn't get under the house was put a half inch copper pipe inside a one and one half inch PVC pipe with pipe insulation on the half inch copper. this will stand in the wind and not freeze here. don't know how it would work in the north. I use I gal. waters and they freeze over night so after dark I empty them . often thought it would be great if a fountain system existed where the chicken stepped on it and opened a valve below ground with a weep system like a frost proof . also like the way the water level valve works in a washing machine. trying to figure out a system using something like that so it would all be automatic year round .I haven't quiet got it worked out yet but the plan is in my head . a lot of Northern states have such a deep frost line Walnuts way seems to be the best one I've heard for large flocks. here we have an eight in. frost line max. we have more options as to what we can do. I want everything to be as easy as possible to take care of . my brain works as fast as my mouth except when the two are connected then my mouth works faster. ,
