She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

I am going to only address the later..... That is what I was wondering. If the defect remains as just physical or if it mutates the gene as the chick is developing.

It depends. While the genes of the chick are inherited (assuming with no defects), it is indeed possible for a mutation to occur during development. So there is a clear delineation between a chicken with a physical incapacity, and a genetically malformed chicken. The first, like a chicken with a twisted foot, should not be transmissible. But the second, such as eyes or feathers without pigment, or deaf, could potentially be transmissible. That's how genetic sports are made, and throughout history they have created both monsters (sorry, Chinese Crested Dog) and wonders (most of our heritage flowers and fruits).

Without the ability to analyze DNA, the only way to find out is to breed many offspring and see if any carry the defect, or if their children do if bred back to the defective parent.

Ok, before I start getting all flocky this morning, I want to have one of my rare serious moments...
The average person will experience a handfull of life changing events in their lifetime. 9/11 was one of them. My wife and I hadn't been dating long, so for some reason this day sticks out more to me than any other day of the year, even more than the 4th of July. I know everyone remembers where they were (except maybe BR
wink.png
). I can't believe that seniors in high school were babies when that happened.
I was a superintendent on a construction job at a nuclear power plant on 9/11. I heard people talking about it all day, but had not seen the footage. The plant was near an airport, and the first thing you noticed was there wasn't a plane in the sky. By lunchtime we had two F-16s flying cover. On 9/11, you could hold up your badge to the guard at the entrance and he would wave you through. On 9/12, there was a mile long wait to get in while the national guard did thorough searches of every vehicle.
The thing I remember the most, after seeing the shocking carnage on television when I got home, was the national pride that started on 9/12. Before the politics and religion took over, do you guys remember all of the American flags people were flying in their windows? I know, for me, NY might as well have been another country before 9/11. Now, every year, I watch NGTV for 3 days straight to see the stories of the peoples lives that were affected. It makes me cry...
I just wanted to share that this morning, and I'm sure many of you feel reflective on this day as well.

Enough of that. Personality profiles at lunch

Thank you for posting that SC. I remember exactly where I was at that moment.

I guess I missed a lot of posts. If I'm reading on my phone and then stop to change a diaper or as SC always thinks, I'm cooking (lol) I don't close the app and don't see the newer posts...sorry if I miss some, it's not on purpose.

See, I feel both sides. A lot of both sides! Which is why I came to the determination that it depends on the circumstances. Anyway, I don't have time this morning to go into many details, but I spent time with the little fella last night, even laid him on my bare belly for a while. I knew he wasn't going to thrive. I did get him to take a few drinks, but he didn't move around much last night. This morning, he was still alive and I gave him a few more drinks. Then he died peacefully. And I'm at peace with what I did. I will still review the what-ifs, but only to learn from them. No regrets. I took this just minutes before he passed. .
I was wondering what happened with him! Sorry I missed your post. At least he went peacefully. That's how the quail chick went. Just went to sleep and didn't wake up. At least you gave him a chance!!! :hugs

This. This is the REAL reason I kept my mouth shut on the subject all day. We started as a team that could give our differences in opinion on threads, to starting a great thread in which we could help give options to people through our differences to every time there is a serious discussion and I view my opinion in a heartfelt way you belittle me. "Don't play the martyr" ???? Really SC That was neccessary to share your viewpoints? By belittling me that way? By injecting your false read into my personality assesment? I feel very strongly and wasn't ready to be put down on the way I felt. Well, congratulations on not dissapointing me. I did not attack you for your stand on assisting, nor did I say you were a terrible person on the stand you take, just that our experiences in results differ. Nice way to turn a discussion into something negative.
As I stated when I asked the question, I have no plans to use him nor do I think he can complete the act very well. I was just curious as to wether a development issue due to improper incubation carries a mutation to the gene as well. Providing that the defect is purely due to improper incubation methods. I plan to err on the side of caution, it's pure curiosity.
I've learned enough during our exchanges to aplogize for coming off as belittling. You know I respect you, and your track record. I didn't mean to belittle you, but as I said in the personality assessments, I'm passive aggressive
wink.png

You passionately defend your viewpoints, and I get defensive about why I don't enjoy killing little chicks

1913
RubyNala97 Sweet Ruby. Everyone loves her. Has a penchant for purchasing corrupted eggs

1015
WalnutHill One of the most experienced members of the thread. A real man's woman. I think of her as a cross between
Julia Child and Captain Sig from Deadliest Catch

995
rossfam06 Poor Ross. Can't see through windows. Another big part of GNO. Admitted assister, and leader of the
Asian mafia

941
silkiecuddles One of the 2 youngsters on the thread. She's been AWOL lately. Says it's because the thread was too much,
but I think it's because the homeschooled stripers are back from vacation

918
RavynFallen Interesting character. Usually pretty serious, but has been known to open windows of her own. My feeling is
that she is a knowledgeable breeder that can offer advice without making people feel like idiots

886
FridayYet The other half of the GNO terrible twosome. Habitual lurker, known for replying to anyone but me. She is usually
hiding in the shadows, but if you look into a mirror and say her name 3 times she will appear

804
BYC910 Love this guy. Older member of the thread with a wealth of information, a knack for telling the most entertaining stories,
and a total disregard for punctuation

739
sideWing The SQ rooster of the flock. Thoughtful, charming, handsome... He's everything that I'm not. Together, he and I will
be creating the most phenomenal olive eggers in the country

654
dan26552 The other young'un. Known as BR (Baby Romeo), he is a striper who is addicted to this thread. He is a thoughtful,
introspective young man with an amazing pair of rose tinted glasses. It may surprise you guys to know that BR and I PM every
day, where he usually gets

ed at least once

533
chicapee Pond hopping Brit who received only the second ever parade on the thread for hatching eggs that Ravyn graciously
sent her after a horrible shipping experience

517
sjturner79 An Aussie who appears from time to time. His DH is his wife. You will have to ask him to explain that one

354
gachooks Relatively new to the thread, but one of my favorites. My sense of humor in a woman. I thought she was a man forever
until she revealed that she was actually Kristin Wiig

340
NTBugtraq Little, angry, drunken Canadian with a trio of bear eatin' frizzies. He was run off after a Friday evening tirade where
he dared to argue with the GNO crowd. He has since started his own thread. I think it is a DIY for getting anthrax into envelopes

289
lazy gardener Another member with a ton of experience. She will peek through a window, but won't break it. We have had some
highly entertaining PMs about hay bales

263
meganhundley New addition. Posted like mad in her first week, then disappeared. I'm sure she's worried about something

251
cppeace Honestly, I can't remember enough to comment. CP, if you read this, that's your fault

195
mixedUPturk Another relatively new member. We are anxiously awaiting the results of her first hatch in her new Octo 40

188
kwhites634 Newest member. Haven't quite figured him out yet, but I think he's an ornery old man

148
Yorkshire coop

Yorkshire, come back!!! Another Brit who was quite active in the thread early on, but I suspect she found it
too difficult to keep up. Recipient of the only ever "Across the Pond
smack.gif
"

134
MunsterChicks Diasappeared early on

130
OldMissionChick Doesn't post a lot, but seems nice enough

120
AmyPaperlady I can't believe she is so low on this list. She rarely posts, but I guarantee she has read every bit of this thread
She only speaks when spoken to, unless she is on Oz's thread, where she will tell her life story. I knew I liked her when she dropped the
first Alice reference in the early days of the thread

OK, that's it. If I missed anyone, it means you aren't posting enough
