no pictures and I'm staying with straight GLWs and SLWs. After the possum killed our last two hens my wife and I decided we wanted to replace them with GLWs .we found a hatchery a hundred miles away that said they were from hatch to table . open to the public on weekends. I go there thinking I going to see the adult birds . that is why I went .also thinking I'm going to see a major operation .their webpage was awesome . looked great . when we got there it was anything but . said she had plenty of GLWs I wanted two dozen one week old $5.50 each .my wife decided she wanted some SLWs she only had four .we took those . she would only sell me twenty GLWs. but let me tell you I don't like buying any thing that I can't see where it came from .that is how people end up saying I wish I had better stock .these chickens are ok but not the quality she said they were. this lady was rude .the price was to high. the place was a dump . I don't like being lied to .after seeing her rip off people I decided there was room for me in the chicken business. so hi you'll here I am .I'll see if I can get some pictures of the grown chickens.I think you are on your way to blue laced reds aren't you? Do you have any pics of your SLWs?
My experience with mine was she came back to the same box each time, if another hen wasn't on that box. The advice I got was to try to move her into a separate area so the other hens don't lay in that box, and don't break eggs. I didn't do that, and I lost a few eggs to the other hens. Turns out that my roo wasn't getting the job done yet, so it wasn't an issue.Broody question for ya'll.
I tried to break that girl with cool water a few times and she was not having it. I decided to put her to work. We have 4 nest boxes and they all get used. I'm curious if she will go back to the same nest after she takes her daily break or if she will just sit in any box with eggs in it? My boys are gone to school and there are always 15-18 eggs in the other boxes.
More often than not, mine will stick with the first nest they pick. The good ones do, anyway. I have a few dumb marans that will swap nestsBroody question for ya'll.

That's what I've heard as well. A lot of people make bear hams and sausage. I've actually heard it is really good. Especially bears that have fattened up on berries.I've heard bear taste like........ wait for it............... pork.
I think they are in the same family as pig.
I was going to volunteer as well. I'm willing to figure something out.
My oldest hen went broody in June, & stayed that way thru the end of July. I'd set eggs under her in the meantime, but when nothing happened after 28 days I pulled them all & set 6 fresh ones under her. That's the day she chose not to be broody any longer! If you want a hatch, just have an incubator on standby in case your's quits, tooBroody question for ya'll.

True. Probably a good idea.No offense but you are kinda new here. It might be better to wait a little closer to spring and see who's still around and get a volunteer then.
