She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Well, it looks like we're the only 1's left Rayven :/ I think I'm going to bed and resisting the temptation to stand over the bator and stare at nothing for 3 hours again tonight. See you tomorrow :frow

G'Night... think I have some internally pipped now too, lol... may be a long night since a couple of those eggs are really important... :/

I personally have had very little luck (or experience) with my incubator but had three hens go broody with clutches ranging from six to eighteen eggs. I venture that they were about 90% hatch rate with only a couple duds in the bigger clutches, of course my trying to put other birds eggs in the clutch may have had something to do with it, in that when I moved them from coop to nest the DNA may have scrambled. I'm actually a little scared of the incubator, I will try again, but I'll have this voice in the back of my head reminding me that just because I can cluck doesn't make me a broody hen, LOL.

Heyla, again! :frow

Nice to see you here! Welcome to the madness! :D

What bator do you have? Never should stop cuz of 1 failed attempt, it takes practice to hatch well in any bator... :)

Thank you and nice seeing you as well!
My bator is a LG (little giant 9200) still air with an automatic turner. My broodies just do such a great job, exception going to the cuckoo marans hen with the spurs...she tries but fails from poking the eggs

, but the speckled susex girls and my faverole that disappeared were great! The susex girls each hatched two batches...no worries on my end, lol. BUT, I'd like to have more control on what hatches and when, hence the scary incubator.

Well, you came to the right place, my friend... :)

@AmyLynn2374 is the undisputed Champion LG 9200 Hatching Master... she can give you great tips to get that bator to work better than I've seen anyone else do... she even got a 100% hatch from one before...
Get some eggs ready and ask for her advice, you'll have a batch of fuzzy butts in no time... :D

I have dug my bator out after years of neglect. Hatched chicks, ducks and quail in it this year.

Had 1 silky hatch 2 and have a frizzle and another silkie on duck eggs.

I am in western MD. In the pinched in part. Cumberland. Anybody within a days drive? There aren't a lot of chicken people around here and DH has learned way more than he ever wanted to about poultry. Lol

LOL! Right now I have some selling and thinning to do before I can really work on hatching more...but I have projects in mind. The faverole x plymouth rock mixes produced some interesting results and I think I've settled on what I want to see in them as far as beards, legs and feet go

You can say that Ronott, and I would agree with you. It sounds pretty stupid. But, I can't disagree with my last 3 hatch results compared to the previous 2 hatches. And, since the proof is in my numbers, I will continue to work with this myth that has worked for me thus far. On a hatch of 10 birds, I'll gladly take 6 or 7 pullets instead of 4. Thanks! Of course, it depends on which study you read. I read a study, and the results of it were minimally positive in swaying the gender towards pullets, that study prompted me to put the idea to the test. Given that I have a full egg basket, and the pointy eggs taste just the same as the round ones, I've been eating the pointy ones when it comes time to hatch.
I will collect data in the spring for your experiment, if I don't hatch before. I really really want to, but I must wait.

I saw this extremely, ridiculously bright LED light on the counter at the gas station tonight...and you all know what I was thinking!! I've had a hard time seeing in these new eggs because the shells are thick!! So I quickly shined this bad boy over them tonight, while I was turning and I have nice development in 10/12 eggs!!! So I can go to bed on a happy note!

So glad for you. You deserve a stellar hatch.

These are my Silkies. Sorry it took me so long to post them, ive been trying for the last hour. They all turned out white but when they were younger 3 of them were darker.
They look like powder puffs.

So, I just had the most awesome visitor to our humble chicken infested place... gotta say I am very glad I stumbled across this thread and got to meet him...

Thank you very much, @BYC910 , it was a pleasure to meet you and you're always welcome at our place!!

That is really cool. This thread has been responsible for bringing together some great people and I would love to meet every body.
I won't divulge confidences, but he is a great guy! Brought us lumber shipping wrap we really need for shading pens, windbreaks and snow barrier. We sent him home with a very nice batch of various hatching eggs.
We probably coulda talked forever, and we did talk too much, lol. Very nice, straight forward good person.

well I guess the cats out of the bag . yes I went to Our Rayven's today . could have spent much more time with her and Jim and all of those pretty chickens .she has so many different breeds I can't remember all of them . I even liked the ducks . came home with three dozen hatching eggs . when she says they live on a hill she means it. to get a view like that I would need to climb on top of my house and still not be close . little chickens big chickens and everyone just beautiful . you leave thinking wish I had enough coops to have some of those and some of those and some of those . went there to get Am splits Marans and Cream Leg Bars. came home with a couple of Aruacana's and a couple Sulmtalers too . now to get them hatched . Rayven is just as nice and funny in person as she is on here . got a big hug . getting there and leaving . meeting someone from the gang was great . thank you Ravyn for having me . and thank you Amylynn for starting this thread without you today would not have happened .

I would love to be a part of a She said/He said meetup... but just meeting 1 was a highlight I'll never forget, thanks to this thread...
Can you imagine what a hell of a BBQ that would be???

yep you live way out but I have taken longer to get to work than it took to get to you. it was only a 54 mile drive one way . but I know short cuts 26 miles to meet Jim and 28 fast miles after that. average morning drive to the city hour and a half . next time I follow Jim I 'll bring a race car. well worth the drive to me .and would do it again without thinking twice . but I am afraid of the dark and maybe was a little worried .

now was that two rights and a left or one right and a left .

She could give you tips now and if you take notes you'll have them for when you're ready... or just ask when you're ready... :)

Welcome to the madness! :)

I think someone said they were in MD, but I can't remember who now... I'll probably get :smack for that too, lol...

@RavynFallen I have been looking at the Ameraucana and some seem to have a bit of beard and some don't. They don't really stay still long enough to get pics. Is there anything in particular that I should be looking for to decipher male or female? I am not familiar with this type of comb at all.

You guys are mean. lol

@meganhundley asks about temp spikes and you start talking about BBQ.

Could be wrong, but I don't think it'll hurt 'em, Megan.

I'm all for BBQs

Let's DO IT!!

Now, back to my last post to try and play catch up.
