She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Makes sense. Those are the pointy feathers E1 kept talking about then. *Le sigh*

And some poor coloring in the girls, but if we can get a boy with good color in his hackels and a girl with a good type, we should be okay.

Thanks. I am in love with their looks, even if they aren't perfect as far as the proposed standard goes, they'll still make a beautiful backyard flock. :)

We got these from user slackwater(Casey Edinger). Supposed to be Foley, Paul and papa lines in there with heavy culling from a few years back. She was very friendly and professional. We may get hatching eggs from her again. We got these as chicks.

Well, Kentucky is only a 5-6 hour drive. Amazing how chickens can change your perspective on things like that.

Thanks for the help, guys. Out of ovations ATM, but I'll getcha.
If the lacing is not complete you may have some work getting it back solid. There are three or four genes that create lacing and if even one is missing you get incomplete lacing. I'm interested to see how they grow out.

If Foley was 5 hours from me I would be at his doorstep right now. But SLW are my favorite so.....

This helps with purebred laced Wyandotte (at least in my opinion)

Cockerel - pattern breaking up. Starts on the shoulders.

Pullet - lacing just starting and uniform

Not great examples of SLW, but this is what they end up as.

I'm working with Foley to get some good stock in my state.

I see what you're saying with the feathering.

Wishing you well with Jerry's birds! Color me envious!

I'm surprised there aren't more options out your way. You know. . . Chickenhillpoultry is in Idaho and they have some really outstanding birds, too. I don't know too much, but I like them as well as Jerry's birds. If it weren't for the distance and change in elevation, I'd be on it in a NY minute.

As for us, user DMRippy has birds from Foley, and they do sell hatching eggs, so luckily we aren't out of options yet.

That was humiliating. Really curious to see that Bama game in two weeks
If it sat still that long, this is for not deflating it

It was wearing camo! I could hear it, but I stood out there until it shut up and never saw the first skin. But thanks for the smack, it's been too long.

Once again, I don't know much, but your SLWs look good to me!

We probably should have arranged a meeting and driven up there. There's a chance our story will end up like so many others before us: Should have driven forever and paid through the nose, would have cost less in time and money. Casey's birds looked nice and she said all the right names, so hopefully there is still hope.

BLRW are in my top 3. I also love Blue Partridge Brahmas, but they aren't good foragers, so that takes em down a notch or two. Isabel Orpingtons are gaining ground. They just scream class and cash.

There are others, but the brain is refusing to fire, atm. You know how chickens can be. . . gotta catch em all.

Thanks for the link! Gonna hand the PC over to my daughter(schoolwork) and jump on my phone to check it out right now.

Nice comparisons... like I said, I never worked with Wyandottes, just other laced types... but sounds like we're both seeing more cockerels than pullets... :/

At their age I'd be digging through the feathers at the base of their tails looking for the super shiny pointed saddle feathers coming in... if they aren't yet, they will be in next couple weeks on the boys... Heard good things about slackwater... lacing is difficult even from the best stock... as long as you cull hard and keep breeding forward you can get them better and better... That close to KY, hmmm??? You're closer to me than I thought...

Ummmm... Donna (DMRippy) is only an hour from us... if you want any of hers, maybe we could plan a trip and meet halfway or something??? Just a thought...

There are a few good breeders but by the time I realized mine were not what I wanted everyone had broken up their breeding pens and I could not find a SQ SLW hatching egg to save my life. And it was too hot to ship large birds. I will be having a slow start with Foley birds, but it will be worth it if it works out.

BLRW are next on my list. Good ones are hard to find. I think there are too many variables with them. You really need to know what your doing to keep them nice or improve them from year to year. Somehow I fell in love with Marans and the challenge of breeding them. And I wanted some blue eggs and that leads to olive eggs and..... I'm sick. I can't stop.

You didn't see it after he posted Spock???
Hey, the audience fell flat... although it was hilarious when he finally caught on... :gig
I had to go back and make sure I really did see a typo... you guys left me at the bar with the tab... :plbb

I was cracking up. I kept reloading the page waiting to see his response. Spock just about made soda come out of my nose.

So I had multiquotes going but I lost them on my phone. Lets just say that the latest 2 hours have been very stressful. My aunt Anita called me sobbing because her 12 year old was had to be put down after a pit bull crushed her bones....poor Ms. Kitty. RIP. We had to bury her in our backyard.

Then my 8 year old was screaming because my CCL Roo was free ranging and started to chase her. I told her to stand her ground but as soon as his hackles went up she freaked and started running towards me. So being that I was helping dig the hole for the kitty...I happen to have a machete in my hand and swung it sideways to pop him with the flat part. I hit him just right because I thought I killed him. He laid on the ground writhing around not really moving....then conciousNess returned and he took off running. Maybe this is what I needed to help cool his jets. :idunno we shall see.

we shall see.

Wow, what a day!

I hope the attitude adjustment helps.

I just reduced the tree rat population by half a dozen. Slow day.
