Hay bale returned. A 7 week old turkey that has never seen adult turkeys nor hay bales instinctively knows the proper vocalizations and posture. All feathers on end, wings spread, tail spread, head low, guttural chirruping. It was twice her size but fear is not in her vocabulary.

Good turkey! I hope you pitched that bale out of the way.

Heard good things about slackwater... lacing is difficult even from the best stock... as long as you cull hard and keep breeding forward you can get them better and better...

That close to KY, hmmm??? You're closer to me than I thought...

Ummmm... Donna (DMRippy) is only an hour from us... if you want any of hers, maybe we could plan a trip and meet halfway or something??? Just a thought...
Slackwater has been nothing but amazing for us. I can't recommend her enough.

And the meet-up sounds awesome. We were hoping to make it up to the mountains this year. We've been planning to go for 3-4 years now, but can't ever seem to make it. This would give us a good reason.

There are a few good breeders but by the time I realized mine were not what I wanted everyone had broken up their breeding pens and I could not find a SQ SLW hatching egg to save my life. And it was too hot to ship large birds. I will be having a slow start with Foley birds, but it will be worth it if it works out.

BLRW are next on my list. Good ones are hard to find. I think there are too many variables with them. You really need to know what your doing to keep them nice or improve them from year to year. Somehow I fell in love with Marans and the challenge of breeding them. And I wanted some blue eggs and that leads to olive eggs and..... I'm sick. I can't stop.

At least you're in good company.

My little bro' fell head first through his first window. I'm so proud

You know, sc. . . when you look at BR like that. . . it really explains a lot. "Little bro" , is that a Freudian slip?

Edit: I'm tapped out. Night, guys.

I just found a hay bale next to Baby's lawn pen...

Need to find the right pitchfork.

Gotta get me some turkeys!!!

Unfortunately my pitchfork has a single tine, .177" diameter. I need a bigger pitchfork, but the tools I need are not suburb-friendly.
Can you use the proper pitch fork in your neighborhood? Some folks where I live don't like to see me tossing hay around. And... there is only one part of my yard where I can toss hay, due to location of neighbor houses. Can't make a mess in the front, back or east side yard.

Omg!!! My male just tried to mate my female for the first time!! :lau
Me and the kids were sitting outside watching them. I don't think he got much further then a beak full of feathers! :gig here's to fertile eggs!! :jumpy

I saw my CCL Roo mount one of the hens today....it was funny. My nine year old was is that how they breed??? And I said yes...all birds do that for breeding. It was the first time I have actually seen her squat for him
....bring on the eggs. They ar 25 weeks old and still no eggs.

Quiet night... looks like everyone jumped ship...

It's nice sometimes. Lol!
I'm popping in and out - trying to pick paint colors (One of my favorite things besides chickens!)

I am too!!! Popping in and out...not picking paint colors.....although I do like doing that also. ;)
