She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

They aren't drinking but I've been dipping my finger in water and running it along the side of their beak so they're getting a little bit of fluids but not very much so the electrolytes will help with the lack of water. They aren't showing much interest in food either. They peck at it randomly but I don't think they're actually eating it so I'm hoping the vitamins and stuff will give them a boost and they'll start eating and drinking on their own.

And horses. I think it's just the act of taking their legs from them. My rooster decided he wanted a piece of me once. He got "up close & personal" with a boot toe under the chin, and has behaved himself ever since. He's brave as can be as long as the fence is between us, but gives me a wide berth whenever I go thru the gate.

Hey...I'm looking into getting a roll of electric poultry netting. Any suggestions? Want something I can turn young birds out into during the day while they're still too small to integrate in with the big'uns, and netting should follow the contours of the ground better than wire.
Mine came from Premier 1. Good stuff, but not chick proof. They squirt right through it. It still needs extra TLC re: ground contours with added posts and staples. I have the double peg kind. I think they sell some netting stuff to put inside it to keep chicks from going through. Save yourself some money, and buy some deer fencing. It comes in a 7' roll. You can cut it with scissors to what ever height you need, then use fiberglass poles to hold it in place. I surround my garden with it. Keeps chickens out, but cat has figured it out.

Lol, that's true. I saw a recipe online that's supposed to help fix wry neck, I'm thinking about trying it. It's basically electrolytes, infant vitamin drops, Vitamin E and selenium. There was a video posted about it and supposedly this chick had wry neck and they gave him this mixture and 2 hours later he was normal so I'm thinking of trying it. I figure it can't hurt.
I'd not worry about wry neck until after he's 3 - 4 days old. It should self correct, unless he's also displaying neuro problems: star gazing, moon walking, spinning...

Congratulations Ruby! Keep us posted.
Congrats to all of you who have recently hatched, or are in process.

They're probably still working on yolk reserves. They'll come around when they are ready.

SW: I bought the same thermostat, and plan to use it for my next bator build.

I know exactly how you feel!!! I'm already worrying about this one egg and thinking "is he running out of oxygen in there"...it's so nerve-wracking!!! But patience is key at hatch time. As Sally Sunshine said in the assisting hatching...that egg has served the chick/duckling well for 3-4 weeks, don't try to rip them out of a place that has kept them going this long.

Thank you! I am trying to be patient as possible! At least i found out yest my parents are coming over on Sat so i have extra incentive to clean house!

6 external pips 4 while ive been sitting here!!!

His balance is WAY off. He falls and stumbles alot. When I came back in from feeding the big kids he was on his back and couldn't flip back over. He's not star gazing or spinning, the moon walking I'm not sure about, what's that look like?

It's ok, we buried the dead chicks and the other eggs :( I'll just make sure I do everything by the book the next time I get shipped eggs. I'm seriously worried about the Icelandic eggs I'm getting this weekend now. I hope the same thing doesn't happen again. I'm picking them up myself so I'm really hoping the problem this time was because they were shipped. I'm also putting a fan kit in my bator so it'll be forced air for the next batch and I'm hoping that'll make a difference too.

Wishing you well on those special eggs. I've got my husband convinced that it's a good idea to have an experimental run.
