She said/He said Who's right? Who's wrong? No one!

Since I have had the broody sagas I've been candling the extra eggs that I remove from the nest and I have noticed something. I have two pullets in the second coop that lay white eggs. I know my Spitz is one white egg layer but I'm not sure what other one is laying white eggs, but anyhow, I have candled 3 different white eggs over the course of the last couple weeks that have detatched air cells. Ruptured detached air cells. When you move the egg you can see the air cell move and little bubbles around it move as well. I have never seen this in any of my other eggs. I'm assuming they have all come from the same pullet and it's bird specific, but I was quite surprised.

So I have 3 rambunctious chicks out! And 4 more pips. 1 egg pipped wrong side and 1 chick is trying to bust out of the pointy end! I think I'm going to move the chicks to the brooder, so I can keep an eye on these 4 pips. This has been a busy night and only half way over!! I hope all the pips make it! Plus the other two look good and rocking but no pips yet! Going really good for shipped eggs!!

Is there such a thing as ruptured air cells self-repairing? Might be interesting to incubate them if they do, just for the knowledge if nothing else

The air cell is detached because the chalaza is broken--It holds the air cell in place.

Eggs can still hatch--at about 25% but not under a broody.

See sallies thread-- diary of a detached air cell--for tips.

If any of my shipped eggs out of my next hatch pip I will be surprised out of 48 I have 8. We will see they are due to start hatching on Friday....4 of those are lav orps..so I am crossing my fingers. I got my new cheapo Bator today. I hope to try it out soon...:)

good luck!!

So is the air cell ruptured because the chalaza is broken, or are they separate issues?
It is usually the cause and often with shipped eggs.

I do not know what is happening with the eggs that are not shipped, maybe the hen is laying eggs that are not complete.
